flashsec47 completely locks up windows for me. it will accept the command, the cursor will flash and it sits idle for about 10 seconds, then windows completely freezes and only a hard reset helps. any ideas? the drive doesn't seem to get flashed.

Does the drive die? (i.e. does it fail to respond to an eject?). How is the drive connected to the PC? I have 2 PCs. On one flashsec kills the OS (drive is fine). I've tried in both Windows XP and Linux. Exactly the same thing in both, pc locks up. On the other machine it works fine under any OS. This is via a PATA - SATA board. I have never been able to figure out why. Sorry. All I know from some experimentation is that it happens when I upload more than about 400 bytes of data to the drive in one go.

ok, I don't know what's up with this, but it worked now after about 10 tries. this last time, I suddenly got the "device IO error" described on a previous page.. I checked the filename and all, all ok.. oddly, the drive spun down after the first try. second attempt with the exact same line failed too, and on the third try it suddenly said "done" and is working fine. no clue why.
I was flashing the hitachi to work with my premium system.

Yeah, I too was wondering how to flash the Hitachi drive so I could perhaps swap with one of my friends.

*shrug* Strange, but I'm glad it you got it working. Plus it's always nice to have an unexplained bug or two in flashing software. Keeps people on their toes

doesn't matter has anyone a patched hitachi fw or a clue how to path it and write the patched one back to the drive? a friend of mine has a patched TS-drive and the noise the box is making with backups of his games isn't half as loud as with original discs.

This has nothing to do with the topic and has nothing to do with hacking. People can help you with flashing but not with copyrighted material.

This doesn't make sense, because there is nothing to flash around. Why swapping the drives with other ones. If swapping the drive would make sense than to a TS-Drive. I think that lots of guys are thinking that they have to redo just the commands postet on kev's site to make their drive play backed up games. but that's as far as i know not correct. It's just a guide how to read out the decrypted firmware, encrypt it and write it back to the drive.

I don't see people asking the 'whole time' how to flash the Hitachi drive. There one big reason to flash the drive, to be able to swap drives. And another big reason is being able to experiment with the drive regarding the patches people make in their own time. Not everyone is making these 'patches' public for obvious reasons. Your assumption is correct. But this is the technical hacking forum. The average hacker and visitor to this forum should be able to understand that the information at kev.nu can't be used to play backups. That's just a false assumption people make.

you don't see them because the threads or the replies are normally deleted after some time.

Just a small question from a noob...can i find out the firmware version of my hitachi drive by dumping the firmware? The reason i am asking is that i did a full dvd window mod and cut up the metal casing to make fixing brackets..and threw the rest of the casing away. Should i dump the firmware and open it with winhex to find the version number and if so where should i be looking for it? Thanks in advance.

Yes; the slax-iso only puts the drive in modeb to get the drive detected...
