This may be where c4eva is focused now. Who is helping him with this?! Or is he still a one man army?

I think it's exactly what he prefers to be and need anyway respect for this. I don't know him and the irc channel, but it's hard to believe that it's a place where he spreads knowledge to people that wants to learn something new, since the only thing that comes out is just a rising "%", which excite pirate kiddies but adds nothing to this hackers community forum.

I tried with the serial rs232 connected to the pin 123 124 of the chip MT1319L sending commands 0x00 0x01 get ascii characters seemingly random and only if inserted inside a DVD player

FFS, stop asking. IF there's any news, it will be posted here.

It looks like CodeKing has hacked the specific security with his tool using the San Francisco shuffle attack.

Ive made a request  post there:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/f44/flash-utility-liteon-based-optical-drives-v3-0-2-new-190420/index8.html

Honestly I am surprised that no one has asked him (at least publicly) about the 360 lite-on.

On the IRC (#fw) someone told that it is useless.

but again, our drive has a benq fw, does not accept both this liteon specific CDBs.
I doubt that fw can be read or writed simply with a couple of atapi commands, or just with an uart app like the one for MT1389, the point here is not googling for a solution.

There is this guy (New Age) that do a lot of tools for some Mediatek firmware, used on some DVD drivers/Players.
Is there anything useful here?

http://newage.mpeg4-players.info/mt1389/tools/tools.html

Also he has this:

Modified LZHUF to compress/decompress Mediatek ARM Code parts. (source code included).

That can be found here: http://newage.mpeg4-players.info/mt1389/opensource/opensource.html

Got a drive as gift for testing (thanks Raiden)

Some small update:

it's an embedded spi flash, exactly an MX25L2005 and dosflash1.6 can write it.
The bad is that you can access it only if it's completely erased, this seems to be the "check module"  mentioned into the patent

About reading the fw, i can just get 3-4 256bytes chunks in a tricky way, but can't have a complete dump this way.

reading dvdkey: ok
reading unique drive data: ok
erasing flash: ok
writing flash: ok
reading flash: missing

Have you tried to flash it with a hacked BenQ iXtreme? Probably that works, but i doubt it will.

 Grin nice geremia

all needed now is firmware that works on lite-on, and you can flash the lite-on drive with hacked firmware with your unique key and drive data Smiley

then there'd be no more need to swap drives then i assume  Cheesy

Most excellent! I would try flashing it with BenQ firmware!

yeah lowering the default reading speed from 12x to let's say 5x, would really let GTA4 (or any of your games) benefit from way less popups and loading times.

Why flash it with a BenQ firmware if he's trying to read the Lite-on firmware?  We already know that the liteon will read and use the benq firmware.

Are you sure? Then we could read the DVD-Key and inquiry.bin of the Lite-On, create a hacked BenQ Firmware with this and flash it to Lite-On... I don't think anyone has tried this yet.

Are you an idiot? Grab the key, then flash the LiteOn drive with BenQ iXtreme firmware with your key...Then you have a modded working LiteOn drive...

Geremia is a pretty sharp guy.  I think that if it was that simple, he would have tried it.  I can't imagine that the BenQ fw would work on the Liteon drive.  There must be some differences.

Why not suggest stabbing a screwdriver into it next?
Flashing a drive with a firmware meant for a different chipset will render the drive unusable.
