Hey guys, I'm a total newbie when it comes to the 360 so please just humor me for a second.

I live in India and I was thinking of picking up my 360 from Dubai since its way cheaper. Now Dubai and India are both PAL formats.
So does this mean that I would be able to buy the system in Dubai and bring it back to India and then buy games from India and play them? Someone told me that the DVD region for Dubai and India is different therefore even if the system and the game is PAL it wont run.

The last thing I want to do is buy the system and not be able to buy games from my local store.

So, could I play India-bought games on a Dubai-bought 360 provided the system and the games are of PAL format?

Please help me out.

Thanks in advance.

as far as I know there are only 3 actual region codes used for games, US, JP and EU. So if the console is EU (PAL) and your games are, they should work fine.

I don't know about India but i imported four Xbox360s form Dubai to Pakistan the games work on those boxes just fine.
I think the Indian region is the same pal so the games will work fine.

Thats great, it's like half the price in Dubai!!

Also, the Xbox 360 3 Year Warranty is universal right? It isn't country specific is it?

Thanks for replying so fast.

Pakistan eh? What are they playing there? Vegas2, Battlefield2, COD4 (I bet it's the latter Grin) So there are parts in Pakistan where one can own a 360?

Ok guys, I wrote into M$ Customer Support before I had written this thread. This was their reply.

We do not recommend that you try to use an Xbox 360 console in a region for which the console was not designed, also Xbox is not officially launched in Dubai hence we can not confirm the region of the console, we  would be able to confirm the region of the console once we have the serial number of the console .

For the following reasons, you should not use an Xbox 360 console in a region for which the console was not designed: Game regions and DVD movie regions can be different in different geographical regions. Game content or movie content that is made for one region may not function correctly on an Xbox 360 console that was manufactured in another region.

(CRAP) Power voltages can differ in different countries. Conversion devices exist to enable foreign power supplies to work with local voltages, but these devices vary greatly in function and capability. Frequently, these devices do not work with high-power devices such as desktop computers and Xbox 360 consoles. In some cases, these devices can damage the Xbox 360 console. If you use a power converter and the console is damaged, the console will not be covered under warranty. (CRAP)

Television standards can be different in different regions. Therefore, local televisions may not function correctly with an Xbox 360 console from a different region.

Read the sticker on the side of the Xbox 360 box. The bottom of this sticker states the region for which the console was manufactured. The upper-right corner on the back of the package also indicates the television standard that the console supports, for example, NTSC, NTSC-J, or PAL. The lower-left corner of the package indicates the game region and the DVD movie playback region that the console supports.

If you do not know your console’s region or if you no longer have the package, contact Xbox 360 Support to determine the region for which the console was manufactured.

Plus I spoke to someone who is using a South African Xbox and European games but their region code is the same.

So guess that means it wont work since Dubai and India have different DVD regions, right?.

if just the dvd region differs, that only means you can't watch your own region's dvd movies.

Wrote them back and they said that they wouldn't recommend it as even though it's PAL, games might not work because of different DVD regions. I think they're screwing around coz they arn't giving me a straight answer. I mean it can only be yes or no.

Anyway thanks a lot Arakon. If i can muster up the courage i'll get it from dubai or else i'll fork out a bit more.
