I installed everything as on the official site... turned on the console... error 64. I tried to start via power, eject or power+controller ... same stuff. I tried desoldering everything works fine. Then I tried to solder it in with wires... 64, then desoldered again - working... now I soldered it in, connected usb... the computer can read the back up copy and even write the firmware to the chip... but I always get that stupid 64 screen with the chip... I tested all the wires... Everything suppose to be working...maybe I'm doing something wrong?
BTW I have computer power supply. Do I have to use the original power supply?

I checked everything... same stuff... and I think I broke the drive now... I read the original key, made a backup of firmware... and then I flashed the original flash... desolder the chip... error 65... I soldered the chip back... reflashed the original flash with the original firmware... desoldered the chip... still error 65... darn... I feel bad now... I soldered back the chip.... I'll try to do tricks with flashing tomorrow... I think I already gave up... spent the whole weekend ruining my xbox360... I feel bad

I always say 2 things: never use a chip (for the 360)...and always take it to a professional...take some good pics, completely de-solder the chip etc - i'll try help

Ok, done... I desloldered the chip... pictures will be available tomorrow in the evening... but I must say the codition's perfect no visual defects... and i'm kind of good in soldering... just I don't know what may go wrong in programming... I know that this is only the firmware flaw now and I think it is possible to reflash it... please I'm waiting on you =)
Fixing electronics is my hobby since I was little... I have all the stuff we need...

My sugestion is you should order a Sammy OEM drive for $50 and just flash that. Would have saved yourself the trouble of going thru all this.

I read your moto i'll try not to give up... tomorrow I'll see if this works and if not... i'll do what you said. The only thing i need to know is how to flash the drive. I still have the original flash backup of my hitachi:lg drive with the key. So what can I do with all this situation I'm in. I read some topics where people connected their drives to compuers and flashed. Maybe it's still possible to resurrect mine. And if not I can simply buy a new drive you were talking about. I just need to know if your method will work. I'll tell you the results tomorrow. My XBox doom started like this: - power supply broke, i made a coputer power supply for xbox - i made vga cable out of composite - standard cable - i tried to flash my drive via stupid globe 360 v2 and xbox gave up and cdrom died =) a note for future: think four times before doing things you are not sure of.

Ok, I tried the Slax... I think my drive's kinda dead now... can you please help me to chose what drive to buy and if it's possible to flash it. Or if it's so easy to do that via slax I can handle that myself...

Hi again guys, I finally received a new drive for Xbox360 it is Samsung TS-H943 F\W=ms25.
What should I do now? Well as I figured it out I need my windows to recognize this drive for reflashing it in 360fwtoolbox? right?
I saw like 3 different ways of getting this drive to mode B... what you recommend guys? - so called iPrep - Slax - or hard way, grounding one of the pins?

^^ completely wrong...if you had a Hitachi you'd be correct, but you don't//// There are millions of flashing tutorials out there but use mtkflash and use Xtreme Boot Maker (36 version) to make a custom hex edited mtkflash for you (tick both boxes) - once you get it all done use the command mtkflash r orig.bin
then
use firmware toolbox to read the key and make sure it's all ok, make a hacked firmware and spoof it in fw toolbox (as a 78) not when making hacked firmware....then use the command mtkflash w whateveryoursis.bin
I left certain parts out deliberately, there easy to pick up and understand but now you must read before you continue

Ok... I'm scared to do anything now.. so I will comment on ny of my action... First I need to create a bootable floppy via Xtreme Boot Maker (36 version), The program asks me for some extreme firmware I opened it, then the program asks for firmware definition, I press yes, the program says that there is 404 problem downloading it, so I press no and then I get this picture and when I press detect ID-I\O it says that device is not compatible with MTKFlash...

This is what I found... iProp... it looks almost like Boot Maker, and moreover it's from the same team. Well it can make a bootable flash drive for me... will this work in my case?

ok well....select ANY .bin to use in Xtreme Boot Maker (you can even make a text file and rename the end to .bin) and ignore the warnings and do not update the definition file, you also need to select the right SATA controller ... eg ... VIA VT6421A PCI SATA CONTROLLER, if you don't have a compatible SATA controller you can't do anything until you get one (you can eBay for a PCI SATA VIA card)

yeah you can use dosflash...I suppose less work is required because you don't have to hex edit an mtkflash...but you have to know which port goes to your drive (if your gonna use it look for SST 39SF020A - that's the fw chip) gigabite
