there is and probably never will be a blue ray player for 360...and there will be no way to make "a" blue ray player for the 360 (as in hack one)...so from here you have two options: buy a blue ray player OR buy a PS3

Looks suspiciously like a USB enclosure, no telling what HDD drive specific software is running on that adapter (atapi -> USB apparently) board, though.

I say "suspiciously" as that is probably why rugby99 considered the idea in the first place.

Considering when they get it to ID under windows it ID's as two separate USB devices under one plug (flash disk and ROM drive), that's not surprising. The additional circuitry - data/memory would probably be for the odd DRM (or 360 specific external software, or authentication? Dunno, don't really care) for decoding the highest resolutions on the HD disks (some type of pre-process to allow full resolution decode or something equally inane), along with whatever hub they are making two separate USB devices with.

I wasn't able to find anything on anyone actually trying stuff with that HDDVD box though (doesn't mean someone hasn't), like putting a normal ODD in there to see if the 360 would actually do anything with it. I'd take it it isn't possible to run a regular USB enclosure with an ODD in it on the 360's normal USB (it seems pretty picky about what it's willing to recognize on the USB ports.) At it's heart though, it is still an atapi to usb adapter regardless of the secondary device, how that device is created and it's stored data.
