Ha ha lol, nah I really don't want to pirate games and havn't, I have a PS2 and all have genuine copies from the shop..I can even give you pictures if you want.  Well anywayz I din't win the auction but there are some other boxes, I now know enough to get started and do what I want to do..i'll still stay around here probably still have to ask a few more questions (one just came to mind, i'll start a new thread) and stuff like that, but you guys have been great.  You have totally helped me to understand how certain things work, why you can't do this or that you have all helped me alot thank you !

I have sent a link to your email address with the MS Dash files.  I believe it is a fairly new version of the dash.  This should help you be able to rebuild the HD.  Just so you know, the file is about 90 meg.

Now, if you have a retail game like Forza or Halo 2 or something and they will actually boot to the game (bypass the dash), then you might be able to do it easier by just running XBox Live from the disc and letting it auto-update, but I'm not sure about that since I've never tried it.

And to answer your question about using this method for others, it should work for anyone.  I know I didn't make it up, and it's well documented all over.

update only works if there's some sort of valid dashboard on the drive already.

Just again thanks everyone   I'll be here for a long time, you have helped me better understand the Xbox console and how it works, taught me stuff I didn't know before so thanks everyone !!
