Hey, I am new to the forum, I have tinkered with hacking the xbox on and off for the past few years.  I am not really a game person and have mostly done all random linux stuff but once in a while i rent a game and copy it if i like it, yeah i know, i am such a rebel.  I suck at soldering, big time, so a couple years ago i installed the xecuter 2.3b lite the one that is a solderless desdesign.  It worked fine great for a long time, now it sat unused for about a year (i really meant on and off)  and i moved last month and jostled the box around a bit but not too bad.  Now i set it up and the mod chip turns on and boots evox (and the green light comes on) but i tried playing some of my old favorite copied games which i know worked fine in the past and they are all doing this crazying repeating freezing thing after an hour or so of play.  The sound will start repeating sounding like an alarm and sometimes the controller will vibrate and the box is completely locked up, not even the bios reboot will work on the controller.  After it happened a couple of times i took it out of the rack cause i thought it was getting hot, well it happened again.....  Could this be a bad modchip?  I assume if it fell off the d0 point during moving that it wouldnt boot evox and work at all, unless its maybe part on?Huh??  Maybe something else?  Thanks in advanced... Its aa middle version xbox with a normal d0 point.....

the HDD may have gotten damaged. it's unlikely that the chip is causing it, it wouldn't boot up at all then.

I did replace the hard drive back a couple years ago, and then put the old drive back in about 6 months ago cause i needed a 160gb hard drive and the one in the xbox wasnt being used.  The hard drive seems fine though, tried using evox to copy a disk to test it and it seemed fine.  Could the problem be related to heat?  The air coming out of the back is quite hot but i think its normal, i had the 12 volt fan mod and then put it back to stock cause it was too loud for when i use it at a media center extender.  But i did check and the fan is work properly.

You said it's a solderless mod... the first thing i would try is reseating the mod chip. While unlikely, it is possible that one of the pins is comming loose when the system starts to heat up

Also, check to see if any of the caps on the board are leaking, again unlikely but fairly easy to rule out from the start.

But i agree that the hard drive is probably the more likely issue.
