Ok i did the Xbox 360 penny fix so now my xbox boots up fine but within 45 secs the xbox 360 overheats with 2 red lights. The fans kick in really fast after a few seconds of booting it up.

Does this mean i need to replace the thermal paste ?

yup, if you will change thermal paste it should work. If not it will be ram overheating, but I don't think so it is it

The Penny fix is worth about as much as it cost you, and can make the problem worse over time..  Do xclamp replacement.

Hi,

Sorry to bump up this threat, but I guess it's better starting a new one.

This is my situation:

1. Did an X-Clamb fix but after 3 months the console gives the 3 RROD again.
2. Tried the Xecuter Fix

After putting on the xbox, same problem as topic starter. XBOX boots and after a few secons the 2 RROD apear (fans are spinning very hard after that the console turns off). The time of overheating is just a few seconds and after the 'baking trick' it was a few minutes... so there must be another problem.

After removing the Xecuter Fix, the problem was still there.

After slightly loose the X-Clamb fix... the problem was gone.

After tighten the X-Clamb fix... the problem is back.

What can cause this problem?

^^ you have the motherboard screwed into the grounding shield and are using all screws except the 6 long case screws ? - what you are getting creatox can be caused by no ground (unless you have all the screws in that is)....if that doesn't help then try the x-clamp fix again but do a proper re-flow none of this leave the fans off for 20 min stuff Wink...I now use 2 washers underneath the board...1 on top for the cpu and 2 on top for the gpu and I don't screw through the grounding shield (reason:hardly any flexing/warping this way)...PM me if you want to know the process in a bit more detail (has changed a bit since that long post I wrote) to save the fight

Still no sollution... but...

Without the topcase on, the console actually acts normally... but after pressing on the CPU heatsink the fans begin to blow and within a second 2 red lights are flashing. The only difference with an actually overheat is that I can turn off the console with te on/off button (that does not work after the 2 minutes of baking).

So what courses this...

- could it be bending the motherboard ?
- could it be a ground issue?

Last thing I did was putting the motherboard in the case without screwing it. Only screwed the CPU (4 black screws). Now did the baking trick again (went fine btw).

Hopefully something has melded together and fixes the problem.

yes, it could be a bent MB and also a gnd issue, although that is unlikely. what I am guessing is that there's broken pins under the GPU, and applying pressure causes the contact to break and the console to think it is overheated.

for sure its a bent board leaving a pin out of contact.

whether its the GPU or even the CPU remains a mystery without an xray device.

read this article here.
