i have a xbox 360 which i couldnt fix until i added a shim and added more washners  it now works but it only seems to work like about 4-5 min then it freezes and returns back with the 3 red light (so you wait another 5 min before it works again). the xclamp has fixed it because before it never booted to the dashboard no matter even if you let it cool down for hours. is there something i could do to help it become a better fix even if i get the whisper fan will this help or will wiring the fan to 12v be a better fix. i have realised that i turn the xbox 360 on for about 4 min and if you touch the back of the 360 case where the fans are it so hot it seems as if the xbox 360 has been on for hours. as the normal xbox 360 i have gets hot like that if i left it on for 5-6 hours.

is there something i could do to eliminate the 3 red light a certain cooling mod.

thanks any help is apreciated

there's no way to permanently fix it short of reballing the GPU. the x-clamp fix may work for years or only a few weeks, in your case it sounds like it may be too badly damaged to fix much anymore. the quick heating points to bad contact to the heatsink or bad thermal paste spreading, though. make sure the heatsink is even and not bent anywhere, and isn't actually laying on top of any component.. if it does, you need to add extra washers to keep it higher.

Well your problem sounds bad so - I recommend my way....

Heat gun: 350 to warm up for 2 min, 600 for 2 min, drop back down to 350 for 1 min then 150 for 30 seconds

This means using aluminum foil and DO NOT STAY INT THE SAME PLACE or you will break all your solder joints, de-solder the chip from the board, rip a few pads and have a useless system

then AS5 (Ceramique` is better : P) your CPU and GPU (make sure they are clean...do not apply more than 2 grains of rice size...less on the 2 heat spreader on the GPU)

12v your fans (I hear things like...will the whisper fan be any quieter, will it help when 12v'ed...will it prevent RRoD....the answer is: NO - unless you like the pretty lights, and can hear the difference between around 2 decibels...@ 12v....then stick with the stock fans)

Use no washers on the part where you screw your screw in (the back) and use 3 washers on the top of the board - and you should have 2 of those washers stacked...gap between all sides of all heat sinks) - and only screw in your heatsink screws fully after screwing in your motherboard screws - follow all of that, trust me - if that doesn't work throw it away or get it re-balled

i guess the only option i have is to get it reballed but cant seem to find anyone in the uk capable of reballing the console unlees there is a trusted site or member that does it in the uk.
