According to reports, hackers by the name of Team ICE and SorroW have released an 'overflow.tiff exploit which is confirmed working on both PAL and NTSC PS3's running firmware up to v2.10. The TIFF file freezes the PS3 via a heap overflow and is being released so other hacking teams can figure out how to make something more useful from it.
Source : maxconsole.netJust found this news, their are multiple reports that it is NOT fake and causes firmwares up to 2.10 to freeze. Thought this could be interesting for this board aswell, what do you guys think of it ? Will this open more doors to beat the HV thus enabling us to use all resources for homebrew ? |

it's just a lockup at this point. there have been several lockups like this before and they were just that.. a freeze. nothing came from it cause it didn't allow any code to run.

Well the "TIFF exploit" is old - but theres a couple more...but there just freezes...I can't remember which one but in the video they say "you can't actually see it but were running our own home brew" yeah...and i'm bill gates

Actually, They have decrypted an eboot.bin! so there is some hope now! We hinted on this in previous PS3 Dev postings, but now it deserves a post of its own. We have successfully obtained the decrypted ELF file from an encrypted SELF that we ran, then dumped using the PlayStation 3.
As you can see in the image below, there is an ELF file, totally decrypted from the retail game disc! This removes BOTH the disc layer of encryption on the EBOOT.BIN, as well as the file layer of encryption.
In other recent PS3 Dev news, we have managed to successfully downgrade a PlayStation 3 without utilizing a previous flash dump backup of the console. Normally to downgrade your PS3 you first need a copy of the original firmware (made with Infectus). However our method does not need any flash backup, as it uses the PS3's updates to downgrade for us.
Keep in mind it's still a work in progress, but expect additional details on this project as they become available. Look for more information coming this week! |

YEA and my mum have decrypt the alien language! (  ) For what i have learned over the last weeks and months on the WEB both Teams PS3news and PS3hax are the same BS. For me real hackers are C4E,bushing,tmbinc,segher,robinsod and such guys.Look at there work and what have lead from it and than give a comparison for the other Teams.PS3news to experiment with a PS3 TEST and every result they get will be useless for our retail consoles.GREAT!  And PS3hax have released there ice tool and claim to found a way to run unsigned code.I dont see a "Hello World" Video like the Twilight "Classic Hello World" was. Unless i seen a real hello world on the PS3 or a BD backup running i want give a single cent for such informations. |

Team ICE are OUT!The Team is no more!!!
If i have understood right than it seems that pirat the admin of PS3hax have hacked the site of Team ICE to erease there whole work.Things would be sayed and Team ICE released there "Pain Hello World" video with a request for a designer and than left the Team PS3hax.
Than $ony contacted Team ICE and give them the chance to design theyr owen game with the requirement to stop there hacking interest against the PS3.
So they sayed......this was for weeks.
If some one have follow the whole story feel free to correct me.
ps. but i will say: big fat BS!!

Anyways there are many reasons why it was clear that their attemps on hacking the Ps3 would fail:
For one their so-called Elf to Self Tool only added a header of a self to an elf and as a result it would still break the signature. Also their heap-overflows could not work due to the hypervisor being in their way.
Now a few ideas on how you might get in the ps3 system it is just brainstorming.
Since there is interaction between the Ps3 and the Psp and the Ps3 does not check the Psp firmware if it is hacked you might be able to exploit the interactions and use a homebrew program on the psp to start some kind of exploit on the ps3. I am not sure if it works!
Something i cannot test but what might make the Ps3 crash at least potentially is when you create a multisession dvd with corrupt content about the number of sessions. But this might only work if the ps3 even recognizes multisession discs and also only if there is not something like on the xbox 360 that prevents then system from reading discs with more than 3 sessions or another number not sure ! I did not get my 360 to read dvd-content beyond 3 sessions or something like that!
