Hi,
I want to get a new 65mm xbox 360 Premium from bestbuy.
What is likelihood to a benq drive? I certainly do not want a Hitachi.
What is likelihood to get 3 RROD?

With a 65nm the likelyhood of getting 3redlights is nothing compared to the zephyr model. Now, do your research with this website www.360drives.net depending on the location etc and with dedicated time you will find out precisely what kind of 360 you might get by looking at the manufacturing dates on the box in the store. |

http://www.360drives.net/ was shut down I can tell whether the xbox has a a Falcon chip or not. But How can I tell if it has a Hitachi drive? Obviously, I want a benq. Any one? Thank you

You can check via lot numbers and serial numbers (360drives is down, but have a search on xboxscene.com forums - I don't remember what lot numbers or serial numbers should have what drive)...i'd go for a 65nm one, so far I have only seen them with a BenQ as far as I can remember

its not the case tho as i had one on a lot 0734 and team FDOU ` and it had a benq drive falcon mobo ` hdmi etc ` so i went back to buy another 4 ` as i prefer em to the hitachi junk and 2 were benq and 2 were 0079 fk`s
so i`d say its pot luck ` there has still been reports of falcon machines dying with 3 red rings ` one way of telling if it is falcon model is locating the wattage on the box if its 175 w then its 100% falcon if its 203w it still may be falcon tho ` as was the case with mine

Can you return it if it was opened, yes, only within 30 days (you'll have to make up an excuse, say it's freezing - and say to M$ when he says what can i do for you, say my console is xxx and i'd like to return it to the shop I bought it from) - there isn't any difference in the hardware between the Premium and the Arcade...none (unless you get a HDMI port or a 65nm CPU/GPU)...they only differ accessory wise

Just make sure you can solder, better yet, if you have never soldered in you life do not practice on a $600 console (2 arcade packs coming soonish, will post here what drives they have)

Poor "c4e" is doing this all free out of his own time. |

I've had 3 arcade machines around me recently with lot 735 and 738, all of them were hitachis. If you're going to pick up an arcade box and simply must have the newer drives, hunt around for lot 741 or newer (but yeah, it's still pot luck as I expect they still have significant stock to clear through the distro channels.)

The BenQ drives are far more common now. Just bought a premium with Dec15 2008 manufacture date. Falcon and BenQ included.
The stats on 360drives.com show everything made this year come with BenQ drives.
