Ok so i bought this 3rrod/tray wont open 360 on ebay. It wouldnt open because the laser was pushed back. I pushed it up, cleaned some of the guck on the metal legs it slides on, and it was all good for a few days. Went to open it today, no go. I assume i have to push the laser again, havent opened it yet to check. Why is it doing this though?

um.. that "guck" you cleaned off the rails is grease so the laser can slide.

By putting pressure on the top of the dvd drive, it opens no problems. So I took it out and gave it a fair amount of pressure in the middle to somewhat bend the top casing in a bit. It seems to be opening without a problem now. Will update if anything changes.

bending it is a fix...but you said it all yourself without relising it...what sometimes happens is the magnet at the top becomes to powerful so it sticks to the bit that spins the DVD resulting in you having to push on the tray...or it being stuck...or it not completely opening

This is really wierd. Aslong as I am putting a bit of pressure on top the drive right around the sticker part where the circle extrusion is with 2 fingers, it will open every single time. No pressure no, no open. So I tapped some plastic washers down ontop the drive, then tightened the top casing of the 360 on, and it seems to be working ok but it did get stuck once. Not sure if this will be a permanent fix or not. What can I do permanently about this? I tried bending the casing, didnt do anything.

theres something about a fix for it involving taking the magnet out...cutting something, hot gluing something and putting it back in but don't hold me to it (search or someone nice enough might post a link)

Depends on your drive....some have magnet on bottom and metal tab in the top plastic piece.
A better inspection of your drive is needed.
Don't tape sh*t in your box....heat makes tape come back off and if your washer is metal, it could fall down into your board frying any number of electrical connections.
If you must use a washer make it plastic and a small dab of glue!

My casing has some plastic in the top of it. The washers were plastic btw but after a few days I guess they had too much pressure because it was making some weird noises when trying to read. I took the top case back off the xbox relieving the pressure, and it works fine, and is still opening fine. So we will see.
