Angry  Ok Guys, I really need help.  I have an original 360 that has 'updated DVD firmware'  Wink I fixed the 3 rod with the x-clamp replacement.  I have gotten these errors several times and have fixed them with the heat gun.  Now I am getting a code 0020 and nothing  I have tried seems to work.  I have adjusted and readjusted all the heatsink srews.  I have tried 'LLamas' trick, the penny trick, and the heat gun.  I have made it overheat and flash 2 red lights.  But when I turn it back on, I get 3 Red lights, code 20.  This is really ticking me off.  I am decent with a soldering iron, so if I need to do some work to the board I will try.  I just need a little guidance here.  Thanks

Check the bottom of the board around the gpu for broken SMD's near the center of the xclamp. sounds like one or more got knocked off or smoked.

peace, zil

Thanks for your reply.  I have looked at the bottom of the board under a magnifying glass and found an SMD that looks like it was tipped over.  Can I use a 15 watt soldering to resolder this?  I will post a pic as soon as I can.

Well, when I tried to adjust it to resolder, it flew off.  I lost it.  Can I just bridge these solder points?  Help!!  If Not, who can I send it to for repair??

thanks again

do NOT bridge them, that can fry the CPU/GPU.

ok master of the  "check your SMD caps" here Wink - now...if you lost it...it's ok don't panic, first...DO NOT BRIDGE THE POINTS !!!! now...you'll need to either get replacement ones...or find something of the exact same size and colour (check this thread I made...it will be very helpfull http://www.xboxhacker.net/index.php?topic=7197.0) now in the first place where I say resistor...I mean capacitor : p and where I say silicon the board - it's highly advised...but make sure it's fully dried (3-4 days) and that you put tape over the silicon...and you cover your x-clamps (if your using them) in tape also..minus the bit where the screw goes in - but...if your using the llama method (it's actually the X-Clamp Mod is what it's called) - wich I advise you do (in your case) then just place some electrical tape over the silicon (the reason why you cover the stock x-clamps in tape is because otherwise when the board heats up the silicon will stick to the clamp...if something goes wrong later on, it makes it harder to remove the clamps)...I hope that helps, if you need more help PM me or MSN

uh.. why the f*** would you smear silicone on there? that $#!t makes nothing but a mess, something that melts in heat is NOT gonna secure anything.

Thanks Gigabite for the info.  I have replaced the x-clamps.  Unfotunately I don't have a dead xbox lying around.  Is their a source for the caps.  The damn things are very small.  I also think that 2 are missing.  Is this enough to give me an error code 20?  This sucks.

Can we get a pic of this SMD Resistor? I have a 0020 board that nothing has worked on. I would like to check for this problem but have no idea what I am looking for. Any pics or greater detail of where I am looking?

Ok I looked at my board closely. There is this one spot near the gpu where it has two little black resistors....

R5R2... and there is a black resistor there... and right below it we have
R5R1... there is two solder points there but no black resistor. Have I found my culprut?

can be on the GPU also...take a pic and show us (why would you put silicon on it...well Arakon it's the ONLY thing that fully holds them in place when you put it all back together...it dosen't melt, in fact over a period of time it actually compacts and I dunno what happens but less is on there (long periods...3-4 months) but you won't have to re-apply it ever again...just one layer will do - if you can find a non conductive, heat resistant substance that won't shrink dramatically...use it) - this is a pic I took of bad smd caps...this is the one on the CPU that commonly goes bad:

and here is bad ones on the GPU (this owner tried to repair it after I suspected it as the cause - lesson be learned...don't try it if your not advanced enough - link (http://s165.photobucket.com/albums/u69/bLuEb0x/Electronics/?action=view&current=IMG_0002.jpg)
