Read out the Firmware of your Drive, put the DVD Key into the actual iXtreme 1.4 and flash it back to the drive.

I am also a newbie, just preparing to flash one of these drives. I understand that each is a drive speed, but which do we need to use and why is there not just one optimum flash? Why wouldn't we always want the fastest? Thanks for any help.

cause fast is fricking loud. the drive is MUCH quieter when running at a lower speed.

Thanks for the info. It seems that 2x and 5x isn't fast enough for videos? So 8x might be optimum? This flashing is going to be a pain, so just hoping to only do it once and have it be good for a while...lol

ahhh I have been flashing with 2x for a while and no videos ever lagged...just a $#!t load longer loading time, most definently that is the biggest thing you notice

I used to use the 'slow' speed of the older versions which while the DVD is completely quiet you still hear the fans take off when they rev up. I use the 8x speed now & have 0 complaints, still don't hear the drive & load times much better. Unfortunately the fans still sound like a jet while playing some games (can just turn up the volume).
