AHippyHop: S02 answer.

I could not flash with my VIA VT6421 but on my Intel® P35 Express Chipset it worked 100%, tested and confirmed.

Try another chipset mate.

Hi to everybody,

I bought Samsung SH-D162D for making backup of Xbox360 games, so I tried to flash it with firmware Kreon v.100. Before downloading the file .bin, I noticed a strange thing:

Please see screenshot.

It seems that my dvd-rom SH-D162D has a firmware based on core SB01. If I've understood rightly, the firmware Kreon v.100 for model SH-D162D is based on core SB00. So I ask you if I've got to downgrade the firmware from original SB01 to Kreon SB00.

I went through the alternative firmware flash with the samsung sh-d162d with it's specific kreon firmware which went successful, but then i went to use shtrom360 with my original bioshock and it gave me a message saying i need to use a patched firmware for original games?!?!?! I have spent too much time and money on going through this and need some help. Though I am quite knowledgable to know i had the correct model firmware, maybe i am doing something wrong, please help asap. Sorry, this is just a little different then the post above.

shtrom360 should have options to produce some sort of "log" file. Turn that on and see if it says anything.  The kreon firmware reports the name kreon in the additional info field of an inquiry command. Look for that.  Kreon driver are notorious for being finicky.  Try putting it into an external usb enclosure. but first things first, find a way to check the inquiry.  You can also get to know the program DvdInfo. Really you have not done enough for anyone here to help you other than to guess ourselves silly.

good luck.

Hi Kreon,

I think that you might want to take a look at these SH-D163B with the new SB02 firmware. I can also confirm that while it is possible to flash them with the Kreon v1.00 firmware using DOSFlash/DOSFlash32, a "no valid alt pfi found"  will result if you attempt to copy an xbox 360 game using common tools such as Schtrom 360Xtract. Based on other reports found here, this seems to be specific to a controller using the Via VT6421 chipset, but since this is the recommended chipset for flashing XBox 360 drives this is going to be a problem for many people. It would be a bummer if people had to go out and buy yet another controller in order to copy games, if they are in a situation that their motherboard does not have an integrated SATA chipset of some other type.

Presumably, it must be a hardware issue with these drives, since changing to the firmware does not cause them to work. Hopefully you can find some way to resolve this problem through firmware.

Cheers

Kreon,
will you be updating the 163B(or any drive ) at anytime or is there no room for the new ss or the hardware just can't handle it?
or it's just not worth it because of the 360 that can do 0800?

0x0101 : The drive supports the unlock 2 state (wxripper)
------------------------------------------------
0x0120 : The drive can read and decrypt the SS

can't sneak it in here somewhere Tongue

It's been mentioned that the way the SS of a game is created through estimating rather than with calculations, so it's a hardware limitation. That's why 0800-mode on original drives are considered safer, even though both are fine for the time being.

Maybe I wasn't making myself clear. There's no room for improvement because SSv2 can't be implemented.
it's a hardware limitation.

I bought a  Kreon SH-D162D off ebay about a year ago. Installed it, and began to learn how to copy 360 game disk. All this was brought on by my youngest sons interest and he and his friends inability to keep the games clean (scratch free), or losing them. As life is with me, soon this project went on the back burner. I ended up removing the drive and storing it for a while. A few days ago, I got the urge to rekindle the project so I installed the drive in a computer and set out to pick up where I left off. I thought the thing to do would be, flash the drive with the current version of firmware, download and install a fresh copy of xbox backup creator, and I would be off and running --- not so !!!  I installed the drive as cable select under a SONY DUR-810A also set to cable select, flashed the drive with firmware I downloaded from the samsung site  for the SH-D162D (ver. SB04) and vioula -- now the drive is recognized but will not read a disk of any kind. Do you have any suggestions Huh I am a learning and very much interested noobie -- I hate it when things like this get the better of me. Please help !!

I also got one of those Samsung SH-D162D drives. I have been told not to use it to back up discs simply because it is not safe, and you WILL get banned using this drive to read games. It worked good on older games but anything within the last year is not safe. (I have been told that the hardware is INCAPABLE of reading security sectors on the newer games)

The only way is to use a real xbox dvd drive programmed with 0800 firmware to read the games correctly. You can get those off ebay also, try a benq or a lite-on.

You should also check the dump (the ISO file) with abgx360 afterwards, and allow the abgx program to correct any deficiencies. Then you are safe.

If you don't care, or your console is already banned, disregard the above.

If you still want to flash your Samsung SH-D162D, you need the kreon firmware for it. WHat you probably did was program the drive with stock firmware from samsung.

I had a hard time programming the kreon firmware with my Samsung SH-D162D. Problems were it would always fail verification, or time out during programming. The only way I was successful was using Jungleflasher1.67, and even then I had to try it more than once.

Even the dos flasher programs still timed out.

Good luck to you.

My dvd-rom SH-D162D has a firmware based on core SB04. The firmware Kreon v.100 for model SH-D162D is based on core SB00. Will this firmware still work with my Drive or do I have to do something else? Thanks for the help.
