Yeah, just got my hands on a devkit so started porting over the stuff I use/enjoy most.  I've got my eye on either mame or xbmc next.

Sounds like XEX's are not much use for non devkit owners.  What format do you currently run homebrew in?  Is anyone working on an XEX loader yet?  (sorry, haven't been watching the 360 scene for a while).

Anyway - hope you enjoy it dev/testkit owners.

currently there is no planned xex loader because of the piracy that would come with this, instead they are trying to develope better open source apis for graphics, sound etc.

but if you want to be the first , feel free to throw a xex loader in the wild Cheesy

Cheers for the info fickdiach.  I've just started reading up on current homebrew efforts (booting linux compiled exe's using king kong exploit, etc).  At first glance it doesn't seem too hard to write an xex loader, the only issue for me being the piracy one.  I'm only interested in the homebrew side and don't want to go near piracy, so will probably steer clear.

As a sidenote, I was under the impression that piracy was rife on the 360.   I'd be interested in reading up on the piracy issues an xex loader would introduce.

an xex loader would lead to piracy because its just an matter of time till a hdd loader appears somewhere in the net, but thats not the main problem, the main problem is that we'd have to use copyrighted stuff to create our homebrew because we need to compile everything with microsofts sdk.

How is piracy related to a xex loader?  In order to run a xex loader or anything else on the 360, you need modded DVD firmware.  Once you have modded DVD firmware, you can already run pirated games.  No need for a loader.

The loader would only be useful to people that want to run homebrew.  There are MANY popular apps/emulators already ported to the 360 (here's another: http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEZFpZuFVFfajVjLfN.php).  You either need to buy a devkit or wait for someone to write a loader for retail boxes.

I don't understand the whole Linux craziness myself... I mean why bother with an xbox360 when there are already a million other devices that run Linux without hacking?  I would rather write native apps using the XDK.  I guess to each his own...

using a xex loader leads to homebrew that is compiled by MS XDK and that's what the hacker on this board want to avoid. they dont want to have MS code running on their machine but their very own code so thats what all the fuss is about Tongue another argument for not using the xdk are copyright issues and so on. i think you all remember that a lot of apps for the old xbox were only accessible through xbins B/C of these problems.

Well, with hacked dvd-rom fw the only thing that become possible is piracy.

With a XEX loader homebrew can be achived.

Choose Your self, but a xex loader will not rise piracy.
New fw will.

that he means is that the homebrew itself is piracy, because it uses MS libraries.

did the job for xbox1 for a long time.
Why shouldn't it do for the 360?

yupp, piracy that is to use x360 xdk...
I think ms plays more dirty... They still did not resolve the hardware problems.

Well everything piracy, everything is illegal so lets give up then...why not develop something that's illegal, at least it's a start you know?  From there on people understand this that and change this and that and it may be legal...even though it might not, cause to run it you might have to do something illegal or "grey" so it's one thing after another

Thank Pikkon.  The sound isn't perfect, but good enough for a first attempt.  I only wrote a very quick and dirty sound driver.  The shaders could be improved a little and I've left in a couple on non-working upscaling algorithms.  I'll probably come back and clean it up in the future if there's any demand for it.  In the meantime I'm taking a short break before looking into another port.  Maybe something like the SDL library if I think I can spare the time.

Sorry to re-up the topic, but I confirmed that it works well on my XBOX 360 Demo Kit Grin

This version is fully playable with analogic sticks, sounds are cool.

Perfect and so nice for playing

Thanks a lot for your job

Best regards
