Purchased a broken 360 the other day

Fixed it with similar ways as on x-clamp-fix.com

didn't replace the thermal paste, and add those squishy things to the back of the motherboard as well. In a way this website provides a weird way of fixing the 3ROD, but it worked very well for me.

While removing x-clamp, my screwdriver "shot loose" and cutted off this little thing, from which i think is a resistor. hehe

I squished my butts together, thinking i had ruined the unit.

After having it overheat, and cool down, the 360 now works like a charm again.

However, there's something REALLY disturbing going on. The fans are horribly noisy (even when it's cold booting). And they weren't like this after i had "revived" the unit, by having it powered on with a plastic bag on top of it for about half an hour Tongue

Here's the video about it:

Could this have happen because of the part that broke?

Nah, looks more like the gpu/cpu is getting hotter than it should, causing the fans to go at it a full speed. Redo the thermal paste.

you sure coz when i coldboot, it starts rapidly speeding up like in 30 seconds

besides re-applying thermal conduct, is not required according to that website.. it matters only 1 degree which is nothing

but that's according to a german "expert "

you should replace it, as a small gap in the thermal paste will already cause a single spot to heat up strongly. also, the screws  may not be equally tight, causing the heatsink to be bent and lifting slightly off the GPU core, causing it to overheat.

received the Arctic Silver 5 today

applied it and used some m5 bolts instead of those x-clamps on both the GPU & CPU heatsink, which suck apparantly since it's now all working great again.

again thanks for the advice  Grin
