Well personally I think my package will suffice, nevertheless - you should change the option from MS25/MS28 (Drive) to just MS28, as the MS25 will work with MS28 code (later versions of Xtreme and iXtreme are based all on MS28 code) - the only difference between the MS25 and the MS28 is the code - that difference in code being firm guard...also...I tried one firmware I got which was all stuffed up but had the key in it (which worked btw) I could find the key but your site could not (said it was 00000 etc - searched for it at C060) - also tried another firmware from a BenQ with the 64930C firmware (which I found the valid key, so did your site) but when it gives out "The spoof information found at 26a9 is" I get question marks then PBDS VAD6038-64930C then a whole bunch of question marks (in the form of pictures, like...junk code in the wrong style of text - best way I can put it)

gigabite

Question marks are not that strange, it's just the encoding. The spoof information is only there to show you the type. It is of course injected correctly into the firmware of your choosing (MS25/28, iXtreme/Xtreme).

Please send me your firmware with the key at C060, because that was one of my testcases. However, since you put this file online for other to view, you replaced the key with zeroes (which my website shows you). Please tell me what the key is supposed to be and send me the firmware so I can fix the error.

Thanks.

This is the risk when you do something that "works but don't know why".

There is a list of things to take care for a good spoof, the atapi inquiry response ascii text is just one that.
for example C4E spoofed also the ATA indentify packet device ascii text.
personally don't know if samsung/hitachi/benq supports them, but there are GetConfiguration commands to report back drive serial number and firmware revision.

I'm sure the author has not the minimal idea of what could be checked, he just exedited what other people told him to hexedit.

Always prepared to work together with people who can tell me what other parts need to be checked/hexedited.
As for now, I only tried to make life easier for people who want to play backups with their Benq 360's.
Feel free to PM me with technical details.

I supply a solution to help, not to be made to look like a fool...

I'm not sayng that it does not work, i'm just saying that is far from being a 100% secure solution, becasue there are a lot of things that can be checked in future. Also fwtoolbox spoos are just inquiry ascii replacement.
Sincerely i've not the will to resume my old hitachi ida db to trace all get configuration commands, all features supported, just to send you what to copy and paste.

So, i can give you an advice:

you could just open mmc6 spec pdf (multimedia command 6), take a look at what commands could be interesting (i just named get configuration), then send commands to the benq and to the samsung and compare.
Or you could just add an "use at your own not-quantifiable risk" and don't care of too much tests.

Excuse if i can apper brute, but i don't like to see members of 1000 kiddie posts where the contribute i can see so far is just a "someone told to copy but i don't know how to paste v1.0"

Well..
Giggles utility is a copy, if You like...
But it is realy helping people spoof their drives.
From this view i better like it than thousands of post asking for help to make a spoof...

Also, posting a link with a hacked fw...
I don't know, there is an other topic with a link showing an online spoof utility...
Wich is a copy just like Giggles utility.. Still contains hacked code, and so on..
I do not see difference.

I could attack, and also defend Giggles.
Depends what I want.
We all haveto agree that Giggles product is..  not a flawlessone, yet it just applys simple things, offcourse none of this is Giggles own idea.
Also, we haveto agree that this tool is raw, and not realy a beuty.
And? so what?
it does the job for people who are not familiar with hexediting and sortof things.
I think it is useful.
I think it is a copy.

No problem with that from the noob point of view.

Honestly, it doesn't seem like much risk.  If "the hammer falls" as you say, a new Xbox only costs a few hundred dollars, and personally I don't care much about online play.  On the other hand, I won't even think about going online until C4E releases firmware for the BenQ.

I'm the first one to admit I don't have any insight (or at least not on your level) into the inner workings of the firmwares. But what is wrong with taking a manual process (find key, find spoof info, etc....) and create an automated process for it ? I thought I was helping people out (who were gonna do it anyway, albeit with a bit more hassle).

Oh yeah... and C4E and his gang made sure we wouldn't be affected when the first banhammer dropped, right..  and even after bringing out the iXtreme 1.0, 1.2, 1.2revC.. yeah.. especially the transition from 1.2 to 1.2revC was a cool one... 1.2 wouldn't start up the non-stealth backups, but DID send info via Xbox Live.. yeah, that was real fine.. I wonder how that plays out when the next banhammer drops..

makeing a boring thing automatic is a fine idea.
the online patcher too, and Giggles pack are both fine from many views.
They bot help people.

Is not that enough?

For anyone that's interested. I'm working on a webpage that will let you upload your Benq firmware and return you a fully prepped MS25/MS28 iXtreme or Xtreme firmware.

Since I am requested to no longer post in the other topic (firmware), I'd thought I post it here.

Status : reading of firmwares, extracting key, extracting spoof info is all working. I am now doing the first Samsung prep : iXtreme 1.2revC ms25.

Update : done. Anyone who wants a prepped Samsung iXtreme 1.2revC ms25 firmware, gimme a shout. Right now it's just a simple java application, but webversion will follow shortly !

To do : xtreme 5.3D and MS28 versions.

I would  like to ask, why are you still mix Samsung and BenQ together? According to http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/Xbox_360_DVD_Drive_Comparison.htm it is not the same. Iam pretty new to this thing so please dont be mad on me.... if you can just suggest what i missed ? Where is the bug? Why Samsung seems same like BenQ to you?

THX for anythnig.

Thats called spoofing.
If Your drive is dead, and You have Your drive keys,
You can buy an other drive, flash it, and keep useing Your box.
What happens when the new drive is not identical?
Well, in that case it will not work...
Unless You trick it to look like Your original drive.
For BenQ drives there is no fw at the moment for playing (legal!) backups.
So people just spoof samsung drives, and use them.

I've gone through this arduous procedure up to the point where I am waiting for my Samsung drive to be delivered for spoofing.  Is it typical for the BENQ's drive info to come up as "SATA    DVD-ROM         62430C"?
Also, am I allowed to use MS25 OR MS28 in my TS-H943 that's on the way? What about the iX versions? Should I be using 1.2c or 5.3D?
