Aight, Ive gotten the BenQ VAD6038 64930C and Ive managed to dump the original firmware with a proper key..
Ive tried several methods in spoofing but none of them has worked so far.. Ive even gotten a friend of mine to manually insert the spoofing of the correct ROM version BenQ into the hitachi firmware, but still, it doesnt work..
Can anyone please give me some kind of lead into what I shall do to get this right?
yeh, and also, from these attempts Ive now got 2 GDRL3120 dvd-drives that wont reckognise in windows as GDRL-3120 with maximus nor birdy, and with Garyopa restore.bat it only says "Error opening original2-e.bin" and it wont properly restore it.. I also managed to total brick one of them by copying the original firmware and naming it as original2-e.bin as it didnt exist..
any ideas how to fix the "semi-bricked" drive at least? I know how to fix the total bricked drive, by desoldering the firmware chip and reprogramming it++

Haha, cause I didnt know where to look, all the major gaming accessories web shops (supreme/divineo) didnt have Toshiba, only Hitachi, so instead of not ordering anything I ordered 3 hitachi drives, which are all three bricked now from trying to spoof em as BenQ, but Ive ordered 4 Toshiba Samsung drives off Ebay now, so hopefully Ill get one of them working as spoofed but still, I wanna know how to do it with Hitachi, cause it should be possible..

Me too, I know it is possible...what we have to do is geta bunch of different firmwares wich are already spoofed and ready to inject our personal key into (or a new fw toolbox would be nice :p - i know you guys are workign hard)

Hmm. Thinking out loud here. What if :
You first flash the hitachi normally (let's assume it's a 59) with XTRM.
After flashing, get the hacked binary (will be in the directory).
Open this in Hex Workshop and look for the old key, replace with Benq key.
Look for the spoof string (known by opening the firmware in FWTB and looking in the Spoof as .. dialog).
If found, replace it with the Benq string.
Save the firmware as hackbenq.bin or something.
Now do a 'restore' on the Hitachi drive.
Change the flashix.bat to hardcode the binary file to be flashed to be hackbenq.bin and run it.
Shouldn't that work ?
2 things I'm not so sure about : - what about the encrypting firmware part (needed, if so when ? ) - checksum validation ?

Ive tried hardcoding flashix.bat.. you cannot flash a whole bin file to an hitachi drive, only strings.. if you try to flash it whole (like with maximus, with spoofing) it would not work..

How about hex edit decrypted xtrm 47dj.bin? 1. Hex your benq key into it. 2. Hex spoof string in. 3. Encrypt it. 4. Complete flash using external programmer.

okey, I may be a noob, but why is encryption needed? does maximus do that automatically when flashing live?

I don't know. I do know that you need to work with decrypted fw to hex edit it. Also fwtoolbox4 has the ability to en/de crypt hitachi fw. So... my guess would be that you need to encrypt b4 flashing.

Ok guys, I can help...I have all fw's from TMF's site and I will try to make all of them BenQ ready (I will make them origional fw's so you have to do the hacking and key insertion), I just need some BETA testers (with knowledge as I will not be responsible for any killed Xbox's - possibly with a programmer as it will be faster) cheers gigabite

I am trying to replace a BenQ 64930C with a Hitachi 59 drive. Read the BenQ drive and flashed the Hitachi drive with the key from the BenQ. Now I have to spoof the Hitachi 59 drive as a BenQ 64930C. I understand you have to spoof the Hitachi manualy. I found the following 2 strings: 00002020h: 0095 LHD--TTSVD-DOR MDG3R21L0 000020b0h: HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR3120L00590BMBB 06/01/2
Do I have to replace these 2 strings to spoof the drive as a BenQ 64930C?
