I am the proud owner of the latest batch of samsung pc dvd roms the sh-d162d / bebp f/w SB00 IDE Drives

I have tried to upgrade firmware to kreon 080 and 081 and have 3 dvd rom bricks to prove it

tried force firmware with nocheck via cmd prompt and the results are not good WARNING it brick the drives

I can now confirm that these drives are different they come with a pink disk instead of the green one and are smaller in lengh

the old d162c are now going to be sought after until kreon can deliver again anyway

Thats right, here in Germany no C Versions are available, only the new D Version.
So we can hope, that Kreon or another one is able to program something new for the D Version, if the D ist still useable to hack.
I think Samsung get pressure from Microsoft to chance their Hardware.

It would be a great help to me, if one of you could supply me with a hires scan or picture of the SH-d162D internals. I don't expect the D version to be much different from the C version hardware wise, but I could be wrong  Smiley

I guess the time has come for some updates.....work work work  Wink

Thanks!

Hi Kreon,

I would be happy to supply you with a whole drive. I am located in Germany.
Just get in touch with me.

Scans will follow, hope using a scanner will work, cause I forgot to bring
my camera today.

Cheers

Thanks  Smiley

The hardware is similar to the 162C, but it is based on another member of the Mediatek series of controllers. Hmm....I guess that means, that I will have to add another drive to my collection  Undecided

hopefully it can be fixed ....

bt as an alternative, as it seems as this drive is the only one made to do this ..

would it be possible to look into finishing the 8164 firmware ..
its soooo close and could be a GREAT all rounder drive if the existing firmware was finished ...  as it can already get the main game data, but is restricted to the first layer ? oldr revisions of it workd,
im sure it could be re-worked to have it complete ?

as if this drive 's firmware WAS completed would support ...

already working . in xbox, read xbox originals (restricted too 1st layer)
already working . in xbox, read xbox backups dvd/DL/cd etc
already working . in xbox, read dvd movies
already working . in PC as above !
already working . in PC reading 360 games,  restricted to 1st layer and game data only
already working . complete backups of Nintendo Wii, and gamecubes games

if only this drive's firmware was compete could have a all round DVD drive replacment/ backup drive

Mick ...

I love the GDR-8164B it was always the cheapest dvd-rom out there

would love to see a hacked firmware on these from Kreon (let me know if you need one, im shipping these worldwide everyday)

Unfortunatley they have stopped production of these too the replacement is GDR-H30NBL

but they were in a large distribution chain so you might still find them in smaller outlets

detail of release NOT for D162D though Angry but look at the bottom  Cheesy

""""""
A year has past, and the time has come for a small maintenance release. While the V0.8x releases have performed rather well, there's always room for improvements, even though most of them are well hidden and probably won't be noticed by most people.

....

What's next.....hmm... it starts with an S and ends with a D or a B Smiley!

Message to Kreon how do I make a donation to help the cause
