I was just wondering... where in the flashing process does the failure happen, when you try to flash an Sam MS28 with a SATA chipset other than the VIA 6421 or 8237? (Ex. Flashing an MS28 with an nForce 4 MCP)

Ive only ever used the via8237 with 10sec trick for ms28 drives from what i remember u need to do the vcc method will b a tut on here somewhere. Also u will need to make a custom mtkflash for your chipset xtreme boot maker will do this do not have any sata hdds atatched or it wont work i had to make a fresh install of xp on a new ide drive because my primary is sata. The device id will come up different with sata devices attached. Hope this helps.

It fails after you select the SATA port where the drive is present.

That's not true, I have a friend who has the same chipset and the same drive and he has never ever had to use the vcc trick (I could have possibly miss-understood your post, sorry if I have)
