next step could be to do it by soft like i do with ps2 sx codes using Eject or power button mode or like xbox1.
For example:
turning on with eject = hacked firm
turning on with power = orig firm

I have a good idea how to piggy back the flash rom and add a switch but i need a SST 39sf020a.  Anyone know where I can buy just one or two.  I've looked around but can't find it online.  Also, does anyone have a good idea of where to mount the switch.  I was thinking drill a hole in the back but im open to suggestions.  Thanks.

its just a normal resistor - 'pull up' just means that it is there to hold the pin high (+3.3v) until connected to ground to bring it low (0v) and enable the chip. It prevents the pin 'floating' somewhere between!

yeah do you know how hard that is? you have to get the epoxy off the chip and lift the ce pin have you even opened up your drive? I've done lots of this stuff, and it still took me a while and I still broke some tracks look at the board - the pin you have to remove is virtually impossible to get at the epoxy is under the chip.

If your still willing to break your drive - virtually any resistor will do - its just a pull up - id suggest a 1/4W 10k -simply because they are common.

No I won't brick my drive and yeah it's already opened. I only asked because I am not so good at translating english content about electronic parts like resistors etc. into my native language. Btw those SST's are very expensive here, around 7EURO Cheesy
