hi there,

just been looking at an xbox which has been heatgunned and it still isnt working, error has changed to 0110.

Basically looking around the motherboard i beleve its a semiconductor but dont hold me to that looks like it has blown it is labelled ntd60n02r

See the attached so you can see which one for yourselves, just wondering if this could be causeing it to 3 red light still, and if it could how do i go aobut replacing this part, where could i obtain it from, or could there be an old piece of electrical equipment in my house i could remove it from.

The Xbox basically had 3 red lights, so i replaced the xclamps, it started 3 red lighting again, so i heatgunned it, and it was fine for a couple of days and just started freezing again today.

It wouldnt let me upload it but basically if you look at :

http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/2005/1210/xbox56.jpg

If you look at the two ram chips at the top, just to the left they are there, they look a bit like chips themselves.

I have found (on many boards) that these types of errors (memory errors and such) are because an SMD capacitor (on the back of the board) underneath the CPU or GPU (not underneath the chip....on the back of the board - usually the CPU) is broken, loose or missing...replace it with one of the exact same colour, size and type and you'll have a working machine (use a magnifying glass or look really carefully) Smiley - you can get these parts from an old Xbox...not for the weak

OK then just checked that over and all the SMD's are fine, not one missing at all.

The only damage to the board looks like around the said part in my first post, although it doesnt look that damage, just the leg looks a bit iffy like a litle black.

eh.. color doesn't matter one bit with capacitors, it doesn't indicate anything.

I dont think its a capacitor, when i put the number in on google it says its a semiconductor,

its a little black thing, looks like a chip but its a small sqaure thing, theres quite a lot of them around the motherboard.

I can try and take a picture of it if you like.  it just looks a bit damaged as one of the legs looks sort of burnt, it doesnt look clean at all and looks a bit "gritty"

If you were to blow a MOSFET on the 360 you would get these symptoms (taken from XS - assuming i read the right thing):

-Xbox 360 turns on, and flashes 3 red lights IMMEDIATELY (not after a few seconds like on some other failures, such as the dreaded 0102). No picture on the screen.

-Fans do not spin, and PSU may show red or orange light.

-After it shows the 3 red lights, secondary error code will be 0001 or 0002.

-Nothing connected to 12V or 5V works (no measurable voltage on the line).

-Resistance from 12V to 5V is very low (around 1 ohm).
