Ok, this is what everyone is looking for. I took the liberty of reading through everything, again, and made the following notes... Let's try and update a thread (sticky?) and create a compatibility list. At some point maybe someone will format everything nice or make a database, etc... Here is a START  Wink

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PCI SATA:

Sil3112 Chipset - Does not work! Does not support IDE Flash!
Sil3114 - Does not work, buggy at best.
Sil3512 (CompUsa) - Does not detect drive.
Maxtor SATA card w Promise chipset (comes free with hard drives) - Cards only work for HDD's...

Onboard SATA:

MSI k7n2 delta (Promise SATA) - Not compatible

ASUS with sil3114 Controller (ICH6) - Compatible for some?

VIA Chipset - Compatible
Intel Chipset (ICH5 / ICH6) - Compatible
ASUS p5ad2 premium (with ich6) - Compatible
Intel Chipset ICH7) - Compatible with hex-edited mtkflash?
Promise Sata controller on the ASUS P4C800E-Deluxe - Compatible with DVD drive, not HDD
NF4SAT1 nForce 4 SATA Controller - Compatible with proper Mtkflash
Abit NF7-S2GNnforce2 SATA (mapped as IDE ports 3+4) - Compatible

NOTES:
* Mtkflash MUST have the dvd drive on a sata channel, not an ide channel (with sata-to-ide converter).

* Mtkflash cannot flash via a USB or Firewire connection (DOS doesn't have drivers!)

* Mtkflash has the following support documented inside the compiled executable:
   ICH5, ICH6P, ICH6, ICH6M, VIA8237, Si3114, SiS964, SiS180, SiS965, NV nForce3

* Make sure your SATA ports are set to NATIVE/IDE mode NOT RAID

* You can hexedit Mtkflash to modify support for which channel, etc. the application scans. This differs by machine/card/controller, so this is obviously only something more advanced users can do.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mods, feel free to take ownership of this and do as you please... I am hoping someone posts information that could lead me to a working PCI adapter card solution... Someone in the world had to get a PCI card working today lol! I am 0/3 today so far... Best Buy / Fry's Electronics slated for tomorrow  Grin

Intel Chipset ICH7) - Compatible with hex-edited mtkflash?
[

I can confirm ICH7R IS working editing mtkflash. Tested read/write OK.

this also only works with edited mtkflash. and actually, except for 3112/3114 chipsets, I believe almost all sata controllers will work fine with a hexedited mtkflash.

Yeah, I can see that. Maybe that should be on the to-do list then, making a mini-tut for the various hex-edits you can perform to mtkflash to get your controller working  Grin

Will it be possible to flash with a PCI to SATA card with chipset 3112? Cause that would be the only option I will have, exept for buying a new pc  Cry

it's a hardware limitation, no software can help that.

I used asus A7V880 with VIA VT8237 southbridge
the same southbridge is found on K8T800 chipset, but not K8T890 (VIA VT8237R)
I need to disable SATA BOOT ROM in mb bios, otherwise the controller hangs.
btw, also with XTRM0800.bin fw it hangs, anyway all CDB commands can be sent to the drive with a sata-to-ide converter (but mtkflash does not work with converters)

I also hexedit mtkflash to have ALI M5283 pci controller (2 sata+ 1 ide) recognized, it hangs sometime during mtkflash reading, it hangs all time during mtkflash writing, so i don't recommend this cheap pci controller.

 Hi all
 Shocked
Bought slightly out of date m/b Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939 with nForce3 250Gb chipset No hang ups! Works like a dream! Read f/w, patched it, burnt it back and works in the 360 no worries.

excuse me if I´m wrong, but isnt the DOS driver needed everything else than just the normal ide functions? I mean if you want to use Raid Controllers, you cant access them in dos without the Raid driver loaded first. Same should work for addon sata controllers too, right?

so which PCI Sata card should I purchase? I'm in the UK.

I've read countless threads on this forum and can't find the information, if someone could post a link to a working card then it will stop the same question being asked over and over, thanks.
