input file error simply means it couldn't find the file or filename you provided.

No it means it can't find your firmware file on your floppy, check your command typing you probley typed the filename wrong or the filename is to long for dos...

Hey Guys,
Firstly thanks for your help, really appreciate it.

I am trying to copy my DVD-ROM's flash to floppy so that i can back it up, get the key and write the xtreme firmware back. I have done this successfully with another Samsung drive this evening but i cannot remember if it was also a TS-H943. basically i know all the hardware is correct and the setup works.

However when i try and do the flash read command ("mtkflash r /m orig.bin" using mtkflash v.1.83c) i get the following error:-

Port:170, Master/Slave:a0
Status = 50, should be 70
ERR:user break

Is this error telling me it just cannot read this Xbox 360 DVD drive? can this be solved? am i missing something obvious? do i need to edit the mtkflash manually in a hex editer? When attempting to flash the xbox 360 drive do i have the sata cables connected to any other drives?

I had this before with the other Samsung drive but i just switched off, fiddled with the wires a bit and it all worked magaically =[

Incidentally since ive been mucking around with this xbox360 my IDE DVD Drives are now only detected intermittently

cheers
Pete

that error means that your mtkflash is not edited to work with your sata chipset.

anyone know if the my emachines chipset works with mtkflash?
It queries the drives and find them in atapi mode but it fails to initialize device, does that mean my chipset isn't supported or will it say chipset not supported if its not like in a message pop up box...., also if it queries and detects drive then isn't it supported?

he was actually trying to read but he figured it out he was typing "MTKFlash r/m orig.bin" instead of "MTKFlash r /m orig.bin"

Considering that chipset was made years before SATA, I would have to say no.

Hi - sorry my 1st post is a request for help

Please can some one help me. I have read till I have puked - literally ?

I have purchased a ASROCK 775Dual-915GV motherboard which has an ICH6 intel chip set. After reading it seemed this was compatible.

I have connected my xbox on SATA1, disconnected all IDE drives except for the floppy.

I created a boot disc and put MTKFLASH and the TYP file on the disc.

The Toshiba drive is visible in my bios no problem there.

However when I run command mtkflash r /sata backup.bin it says drive not detected.

I bought this motherboard for ease of use as it said it was compatible. Am I pissing in the wind or am I doing something wrong ?

Any advice thankfully received.

Regards

Confirmed working for read/write of firmware (someone sent me a PM):

HP/Compaq (HP d530s)
Bios Chipset on board -> SST (49LF0A0)
SATA Chipset: Not provided, but with the PC model# and BIOS chip # you can probably figure it out if you have one of these machines...

@Arakon: Thanks for noticing that, updated.

ABOUT UPDATING THIS LIST:

I haven't had a lot of extra time lately, so I haven't went through this list and tried to make a complete *new* list... In addition, I think it has been made clear (over the various threads the past 2 weeks) that most chipsets will work if you properly hex-edit mtkflash.

Another thing is that the xboxhacker "SEARCH" button really does work well (unlike OTHER forums, that outsource their search functionality and it is horrible). You can search this thread (not the entire site, just this thread) for your chipset and find the posts/solutions quickly!  Grin

uhm.. that's the bios chip, not the sata chipset.

http://www.outletpc.com/c5533.html

That's the VIA 6421L chipset, which worked dandy for me with the edited mtkflash for VIA.

Hello there,

just wanted to say that I succesfully hacked my 360 with a PCI Via VT6421.

Naam   VIA VT6421 RAID Controller
Fabrikant   VIA Technologies, Inc.
Status   OK
PNP-apparaat-ID   PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3249&SUBSYS_32491106&REV_50\4&D4762A7&0&4810
I/O-poort   0x0000A400-0x0000A40F
I/O-poort   0x0000A800-0x0000A80F
I/O-poort   0x0000AC00-0x0000AC0F
I/O-poort   0x0000B000-0x0000B00F
I/O-poort   0x0000B400-0x0000B41F
I/O-poort   0x0000B800-0x0000B8FF
IRQ-kanaal   IRQ 21
Stuurprogramma   c:\windows\system32\drivers\viamraid.sys (5.1.2600.520, 90,50 kB (92.672 bytes), 27-5-2006 14:08)

I downloaded the new drivers. Link can be found a couple pages back and the via mtkflash edited file.
I disconnected everything except my primairy HD. Took my IDE controller out (yes I have a 2nd one in my pc). Hocked up the 360 using the 0 port. I typed in the command but waited with enter until i turned on the box. Wenn you turn the box on you can see the laser of the drive flikkering. Wenn this happns hit enter. If it does not work restart the pc and try it again. One more thing, I had to insert my dvd key manually because KDX forgot 2 sets of numbers so wenn I did my flash my box didn`t boot anything.

and the via mtkflash edited file.

@patrick
Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the help, still cant get it working yet but i am trying the latest drivers shortly =]

In the quote above are you talking about the mtk-nt4 mtkflash.exe? or are you talking about modifying your mtkflash.exe manually in a hex editor to copy the correct 8byte string preceding the VIA Chipset entry?

Anyone:- Will using the black cable from the xbox360 be required to flash a TS-H943 with a VIA VT8237?? Or can i use the standard red SATA cable?

I have tried using the black cable as well as the Red one but no luck. I still get this error EVERY time =[

"Port:170, Master/Slave:a0
Status = 50, should be 70
ERR:user break"

my msinfo32.exe details are:

Name   VIA SATA RAID Controller
Manufacturer   VIA Technologies, Inc.
Status   OK
PNP Device ID   PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3149&SUBSYS_13001462&REV_80\3&13C0B0C5&0&78
I/O Port   0x0000A000-0x0000A007
I/O Port   0x0000A400-0x0000A403
I/O Port   0x0000A800-0x0000A807
I/O Port   0x0000AC00-0x0000AC03
I/O Port   0x0000B000-0x0000B00F
I/O Port   0x0000B400-0x0000B4FF
IRQ Channel   IRQ 20
Driver   c:\windows\system32\drivers\viamraid.sys (5.1.2600.520, 90.50 KB (92,672 bytes), 29/05/2006 05:34)

Also, is it ok that my Serial ATA Controller shown just after bootscreen for mobo doesnt find a drive in Serial 0 or 1 even when the TS-H943 is plugged in!?!?

Remeber i have successfully flashed an older xbox 360 samsung drive....

@Arakon

that error means that your mtkflash is not edited to work with your sata chipset.

I have tried the modifying mtkflash.exe method in Hex editer and this hasnt worked for me either, still same problem stated above.

I think i have been reading and writing back to one of my IDE Hard Drives.

Is it possible to flash over the IDE Connection to a drive?

One of my DVD drives is totally screwed and is recognised but as a load of ASCII characters or "0000 0000000"

The other DVDRW drive is recognised correctly with the same string in bootup / BIOS but is not detected in windows!!!!

wtf has gone on!!! I reckon ive flashed the xbox360 firmware back to my DVD Drives!!!

cheers! Sad
