Hi guys.

Im using the xbox360 itself to power the drive, howver after getting the bootdisk and everything reaady, i plug the sata lead from the drive into sata1 port on the motherboard (VIA) and switch the xbox on. After which i switch the pc on, and it tries to go through a scan because of the new connection. But this scan fails to find any knew hardware and then asks me to press (g) after which it boots into windows...
In the bios, i disabled Raid and enable sata....is there anything else i should be doing? Should i boot into dos first THEN switch on the xbox ?

I have PC dvd-drive connected by IDE, and a hardrive connected by IDE also, so both sata ports are open..
ANy help is MUCH appreciated

Thanks

I've read of success with promise chips on others sites...maybe maxtor cards dont provide support for optical drives..however will work with edited mtkflash.
My current pci card collection:
-sil3112
-sil3114
-maxtor (promise)

All the above will be returned for refund!

Do you have another drive connected along with the x360's drive? I have asus pc4800-E and having a prob as well, trying to dump my 3120L fw. It does pick up in bios fast. but after mtkflash asks me which drive to use it freezes on the next line.
I've tried every combo using the compatablilty/raid/enhanced etc. and still freezes on that line
that board has ICH5r -any ideas?

Disable Raid in bios,

I'm with you guys on finding a working PCI adapter/card. I'll be going to the local compusa when I get off and grab one and try it out, if that doesn't work, I'll take it back and get another one until I've gotten all the ones in the store or I have a working one. I'll confirm each brand/model/chipset that I get to be working or not.

There is nowhere near enough info in this thread. At least anybody who tries a PCI adapter/card post what brand/model/chipset etc., just as much info as you can so we can find a working PCI card (if it exists). As of now it just seems everybody is waiting for somebody else to figure it out for them. We'll never figure out a working PCI card if we don't compile more info about what has been tried and what hasn't. Sorry if I come off as rude I just don't see how everybody posting stuff like "what PCI card works" is going to help. We'll never know until we try.

I'll update later when I get my card/adapter.

All CompUSA had in my area was a Belkin with a Sil3112 chipset, and the CompUSA-branded card with the Sil3512 chipset. Both of those will not work (at least I had zero success with the 3512).

BestBuy has an Adaptec with a Sil3112, so no go there. Fry's has (1) that doesn't say what it is online (the others say Sil3122, ugh), so I am going to go instore and check it out later (it's a bit of a drive)...

Just wanted to confirm that you tried the Sil3512 after hex editing mtkflash. I would assume you did but hopefully everyone does so that we can get an accurate compatability list through people's posted results. Good work to everyone who has tried. Looking forward to a pci solution Smiley

No, at the time the hex-editing of mtkflash was just being worked out, and to be honest I still haven't re-read the entire post to try and figure out what I would have to do anyway... So the Sil3512 didn't work "out of the box" at this point.

PCI card Adaptec ASH-1205SA confirmed NOT working. I could not find any chipset discription anywhere on the box, only when it boots the bios of the card it displays that it is the 3112 chipset.

Will try again tomorrow and see if I find anything else around. The Belkin card was the only other one at Compusa. Hopefully a work around will be found, I can't really upgrade the mobo in my PC now as it's not worth it and can't afford to build the PC that I want for a while.

I think someone said this before, but the IDE to SATA conveters don't work right (I kind of figure as nobody has brought it up).

EDIT: I have not tried hexing my card into mktflash, I will look into that although I do suck at hex editing, lol.

No, it's documented in this compatability list lol.

From the compat list:
* Mtkflash MUST have the dvd drive on a sata channel, not an ide channel (with sata-to-ide converter).

------------------------------------------

Also, emulamer has posted some success with the CompUSA Sil3512. Waiting to hear how it got it working, if he had to hexedit mtkflash, etc. as I had no luck with this same card.

I am also starting to wonder if your PC motherboard also plays a big role in whether or not a certain card will work you  Angry Just to be safe I made sure my motherboard BIOS is current, might be a good thing for you guys to check...

TS-H943 firmware dump by software
is the name of the thread discussing hexediting with mtkflash.

This is a "hackers" forum, so the information is in there, but it is sort of hard to follow. Nobody has put together a tutorial on how to get the correct information together to properly patch the file, and most of the people involved don't want to put together a tut because they are irritated that people who can't "just read the thread and figure it out" are even here attempting this...

I also have Via VT8237 chipset for onboard SATA/Raid Controller and I can't detect the drive either. When i boot with the xbox 360 connected to sata and nothing else but hd and cd rom to boot to dos (hd on ide and cd rom on ide 360drive on sata) it tells me hardware failure no bios please check hardware when it scans sata.... any ideas?

You cant dump 3120L with mtkflash use the memdump tool instead

 Cool
Just a thought, remember to run mtkflash from a dos boot not a dos window as windows my interferes with mtkflash from reading and writing to the hardware this possibly could explain most of the problems that have experienced!
