It says this is the driver for : VIA VT8237R/VT8237A/VT8251 V-RAID Driver not 6421L, so is that right? **EDIT** works a charm, xbox sata connected and powered up before pc, hangs for a bit on SATA detection screen but not when windows is loading and you can see drive in my computer no problem

ok I have a si3112 chipset pci card......I want to flash the bios of it.....
here are the directions for flashing the bios of the card: 5.2.2 Ensure that a hard disk drive or an SV2000 is plugged into one of the SiI3112 SATA ports.
5.2.3 Launch the Silicon Image ATA Controllers application from the Windows Control Panel.
5.2.4 Click the Flash BIOS tab
5.2.5 Click the Browse button and select the b4250.bin file
5.2.6 Click the Program Flash button
However, My option to flash the bios is greyed out....do you think that it could be because I don't have any sata harddrives to plug into the card as specified in step 5.2.2?
I am using the drivers that were refered to on the forum......

Ok, I've been doing some testing. I will do a better write up later but for now I have got the SII3112 sata pci card to see the TS-H943 dvd in Windows XP. It was also recongized by the config util during bootup. Now Someone posted about the bios update and a different driver. The bios was b4270.bin that does work. But only some SII3112 card will let you flash. The compusa one will not flash. Belkin SII3112 will flash. I still have 1 move card here to see if it flashes. I am doing some more testing and will post more.
Second I did find a cheap PPA 1301 with the VIA6421A chip set at Fry's for 29.99 SKU#3812387. Now that worked in dos to read and write the flash but it was not seen in Windows. I haven't messed more with that yet but I will see if there is another bios for it.
thx r0wdy
r0wdy, How did you get the Belkin 3112 to flash? I tried using an unmodified mtkflash, it recognizes it but then states that SiI3112 do not support IDE flash. I tried with a edited mtkflash but it stalls with the port #, etc. If you could post your mtkflash that would help many of us out. If you have any info on getting the Belkin 3112 to flash let me know.

I have the same board the Asus P4V-M800, and I found to be able to flash the Samsung:
1: DON'T WANT TO HAVE THE DRIVE APPEAR IN THE BIOS
2: Go into the BIOS configuration and make sure SATA is set to NON-RAID
3: Boot up your system to the DOS prompt, with the SATA plugged into the 360, but the 360 TURNED OFF
4: Then turn on the 360 system (remember to have the VIDEO CABLE plugged IN ALSO)
5: Type in the "MTKflash r /m backup.bin" command, and you will see only two selections both IDE, no SATA.
6: Select one of the IDE ports, and then press CTRL-C and the program will abort and return to DOS prompt.
7: Type in the "MTKflash r /m backup.bin" again, and NOW you will see the third selection which is "SATA".
8: Select it, and sit back and watch your Samsung drive firmware being dumped.
That's all it it for those with VIA chipset and/or Asus P4V-M800 boards which use the VIA chipset.

Ok here goes, I'm using a PCI to SATA adaptor using the VIA VT6421L chipset that has had a great deal of success according to posts that ive read on various forums.
I've got the Samsung drive recognised in DOS by connecting up the drive to my SATA card in my PC on Channel 0, powering both console and PC off, and then booting PC to DOS prompt before turning on the xbox. I can change the dir to C:/ where I have all my apps installed and run the command line mtkflash r /m orig.bin
However this is where it all falls down,
The error I get is
Master/Slave: a0
Flashtype: "SST39LF020"
Reading: 00% ERR: failed to open output file.
I've tried the original MTKFLASH which wont detect the drive at all, and am now using the hexedited MTKFLASH for the VT6421, which does now detect drive, so I am assuming everything is ok with MTKFLASH, altho I think it was originally written for the VT6421A chipset, not the VT6421L, has anyone succesfully done this with the L chipset?
Reading up on the forums ive seen that this error can be caused by a dodgy/full floppy, however I'm using the files from my C:/ drive as my PC doesn’t have a floppy drive. I'm using a DOS bootdisk I created in Nero to get the DOS prompt, I believer it is using Caldera DR-DOS. It seems as tho I must have no write access to the C:/ drive, which is the only reason I can think it wont dump the bios.
Has anyone any ideas, or can point me in the general right direction?
Edit: I've just been over to bootdisk.com and noticed they have a NTFS Read/Write bootdisk which is going to be my next attempt this evening, do you think this will help?
Otherwise ive heard you can use a pendrive, altho isnt it true that the USB drivers arent available in DOS?

it depends on your MB if it supports USB drives under dos. the safest way is probably to make a small fat32 partition (i.e. with partitionmagic) and dump all the tools on there, it will be c: after booting to dos. someone else had tried with a ntfs tool before and it made mtkflash crash.

Woohoo success with my VT6421L!!
Formatted an old hard drive with FAT32, then dumped the hexedited mtkflash onto it, disconnected any other HD's (otherwise mtkflash hung) so i just had PC ODD, FAT32 formatted drive on Primary IDE (Master & Slave) and xbox drive connected on SATA Ch0.
Powered everything down, turned on PC with a DOS boot disk in PC ODD and let it get to dos prompt, turned xbox on, and enter the mtkflash command in DOS. Read like a charm!
Quickly connected my Windows HD and rebooted, launched KDX v1.5, copy and pasted drive key, made new firmware. Turned off pc and disconnected Windows HD, booted just like before, and wrote the firmware to the drive.
Easy as that when it all goes to plan!!
Observations whilst trial and error
For a VIA VT6421L, it is important that you connect everything up but dont turn xbox on until you have the DOS prompt, so that your PC doesnt detect the xbox ODD at startup. Once youve run mktflash, you can reset your pc and keep the xbox on and it will recognise the drive during startup!
for anyone getting the ERR: Cannot open input device - basically means that the firmware can be read but not written to anywhere - my solution was the formatted HD using **FAT32**, as i dont have a floppy drive.
Thanks to all that helped, and left some very good posts to read thru.
