Since I'm waiting for my Via PCI..I decided to play with my SIL3112 PCI. It seems this card, purchased only a month ago is way out of date (BIOS and Driver) many new advancments for IDE..perhaps flashing using the modified MTK_NF4 ?

From the readme:

Quote
2.    Zip File Contents

IDE BIOS for add-in cards is contained in this zip file.
3.    Summary of Changes in 4.2.70 from 4.2.50
3.2       CD-ROM boot issues

3.2.1      Resolved CD-ROM boot order issue arising from PCI controllers preceding the SiI3112

3.2.2      Resolved CD-ROM boot issue in multi CD-ROM systems
3.3       BIOS reporting issues

3.3.1      Resolved BIOS hang in response to corrupt RAID meta data

3.3.2      Resolved incorrect display of a RAID volume within the device list after a member is dropped

3.3.3      Resolved incorrect volume geometry parameter reporting for a RAID volume with a missing member
3.4       New features

3.4.1      Implemented boot support for native SATA CD-ROM devices

3.4.2      Update BIOS for BIOS EDD – 3 support

3.4.3      Extended RAID volume support for 2TB volumes
4.    Known problems

4.2.1      SiI3112 BIOS will not detect Lite-on DVD

4.2.2      SiI3112 compatibility problems found with EPOX 8KDA3J Rev 2.x motherboard( nVidia nForce3, socket 754 )
5.    Programming the SiI3112 BIOS

5.2.1        Verify the SiI3112 driver version to be SATALink 1.2.0.57. If the driver version precedes either of those noted, download the latest driver from www.siliconimage.com.

a.       Right click on “My Computer” and select Manage

b.       Select Device Manager from the Computer Management tree

c.       Expand the “SCSI and RAID controllers” set of items

d.       Right click on the “Silicon Image SiI3112 SATALink Controller” and select Properties from the pop-up menu

e.       Select the Drivers tab

f.        Find “Driver Version” reported on the tab

5.2.2        Ensure that a hard disk drive or an SV2000 is plugged into one of the SiI3112 SATA ports.

5.2.3        Launch the Silicon Image ATA Controllers application from the Windows Control Panel.

5.2.4        Click the Flash BIOS tab

5.2.5        Click the Browse button and select the b4250.bin file

Use this driver with the latest BASE BIOS to access non-RAID hard disk drives, CD-ROMs, CDRWs, DVD-ROMs, and DVD-RWs. Latest SiI3x12 BIOS: 4.x.76;

Anyone tried this using the SII 3112 from Compusa?  So far I have not been able to get it to flash the bios on the card.  Seems like the chip set is not recongized.

I wouldnt have asked the question if it worked like how it was posted.  This isn't a question about the TS-H943 flashing but flashing the SII3112 to a new bios that does support dvd, cd-rom drives.  This might fix the issue but when using the flashing instructions from SII it seems that Compusa changed the bios so it now doesn't reconize the chip set on the card to flash it.

He wasnt asking if the SIL3112 works with the hack..We all know it DOESNT yet...possibly NEVER.

r0wdy, to answer your question..if Silicon Image ATA Controllers application in contol panel doesnt give you the option to flash BIOS (grayed out) you have a OTP chip and cant be flashed.
Cheap cards use these.. for example HOLTEK chips cant be flashed, however NEXFLASH can.
I suggest you do what everyone else has done including myself.. and order a VIA.

I just had some time to kill and figured since we can edit SIL3112 BIOS and MTKFlash we might be able to put an end to this problem.
I have NOT been successful...but still trying!

Here's what I have.

MSI K8MM-V with a VT8237R chipset.

I had to use my 360 Sata drive and do the hotswap thing.  After I had everthing backed up and patched.  I had to hotswap again and flash my sammy with xtrm0800.bin.  Then while in DOS I had to hit ctrl + alt + del to get my sammy to detect under the bios and windows XP.  Dont ask me why but thats the only way I could get it detected.  Just thought It might help out some other VIA VT8237R chipset owners out there.  I've seen a few other people with my exact same problem.

I've read that the Abit NF7-S2GNnforce2 SATA motherboard is on the compatibility list for flashing the XBOX 360 firmware with mtkflash but I've spent a good amount of time tring to get my drive flashed with no luck.  I get a error that mtkflash can't find the DVD drive.  I've scanned through the post enabling/disabling appropriate settings in the bios but can't seem to get it to work.  Currently my setup is both IDE cables unplugged and only the SATA1 going to the Xbox360 DVD drive (nothing on SATA2).  I'm flashing from Dos boot disk...with another floppy disc with the mtkflash on it.

I'd really like to hear I'm not the only one with this problem...and if it turns out I'm a newb...please point me in the right direction

*sigh* then how about the gigantic thread about how to hack mtkflash to detect other chipsets than the ones supported by default?

Ok, I've been doing some testing.  I will do a better write up later but for now I have got the SII3112 sata pci card to see the TS-H943 dvd in Windows XP.  It was also recongized by the config util during bootup.  Now Someone posted about the bios update and a different driver.  The bios was b4270.bin that does work.  But only some SII3112 card will let you flash. The compusa one will not flash. Belkin SII3112 will flash.  I still have 1 move card here to see if it flashes.  I am doing some more testing and will post more.

Second I did find a cheap PPA 1301 with the VIA6421A chip set at Fry's for 29.99 SKU#3812387.  Now that worked in dos to read and write the flash but it was not seen in Windows.  I haven't messed more with that yet but I will see if there is another bios for it.

thx

ive got this  VIA 6421 chipset pci card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16815124022

and although its works fine for flashing the drive I cannot neem to get it to have the 360 drive be detected under windows

what the deal? yes I did flash it with the Xtrm0800.bin and as for the pci card drivers all I installed was the drivers on the disk that came with it

bitcrusher - is that 6421L card working in windows as well as DOS? Think I've ordered the same one....

Haven't tryed it out in windows yet. It does freeze though when you try to boot your pc into windows (windows logon). So reading and flashing in Dos works like a charm but I don't know if it will get detected in windows. From what I've read so far this remains the biggest problem with the VIA PCI cards.....

my VT6421 card hangs on detectng the drive also with 0800 firmware during boot, anyway if i connect the sata cable when i'm in windows, it finds the drive, i can send the 4 CDB commands to retrieve SS, but doesn't accept the FF 08 01 01 command to unlock the drive, so, at least for me:

VT6421L pci controller is good for:

-flash using hexedited mtkflash, but connect the sata cable only when already in dos (the onboard bios hangs on drive recognition)
-SS dump, but connect the sata cable when already in windows

not good for:

-unlocking drive and make game iso. For this (and also SS dumping) i use a sata-to-usb adapter or a sata-to-ide converter.

Does anyone know if this will work with the Toshiba Drive?

ASUS P4S8X - It has the SiS 648 North Bridge / 963 South Bridge and Promise Serial ATA controller. From the first post, I see the following:

Promise Sata controller on the ASUS P4C800E-Deluxe - Compatible with DVD drive, not HDD

While it's not the exact same motherboard I am thinking the adapter is the same. At this point I don't care about the HDD, just the DVD. So I'm just wondering if anyone had tested this and/or knows if this should work before I rip apart the 360.

I also need to find a hacked firmware for my DVD-R as it currently doesn't support bitsetting - but before I start to go through all this trouble I just want to make sure my mb SATA adpater will work with this drive.

I was wondering if you finally found a way to get it working?
