Can someone compile an updated list of chipsets that do work?  I've been keeping up with the forums and still have not read much about PCI SATA adapters that do work.

Thanks to all for your posts thus far.

While i'm waiting for by 1st backup to burn. I'd like to add the following nforce3 250gb onboard sata mobo to the working list. The only problem is that you must use port 4 instead of port 1 or mtkflash will not see the drive

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo_Platinum

I kept all my IDE drives connected and just plugged the 360 dvd drive into port 4

If you are having problems getting the correct dvd key patched to your extreme.bin file, then folow this guide..(Note..this is not my work, someone posted this and it helped me no end, I'll post their name when I can find it! I take no credit!) First off, download "hex workshop" from the net, it's free and bloody brilliant for this job! Once it's installed ,start it and then click FILE/OPEN your original firmware dump.
Click "EDIT", "GOTO", set offset to "4000" and 'tick' HEX then click "OK" Your cursor shoul now be flashing in front of a block of figures 4 rows long, then a break, then another 4 figures etc. Now just hold the left mouse key down and drag it all the way down untill all the blocks of 4 numbers, down to the point where the numbers change from FFFF FFFF FFFF to something else, (stop at the last complete whole block of F's.   eg highlight FFFF but not FFF6  ,now all the blocks from 4000 onwards to the point last specified should be highlighted black! Now right click and select copy!
Now close the program (just to be sure) and open it again. Now click "file" , "open" extreme.bin. Once you've done this click "edit" ,"GOTO", set offset to "4000" and 'tick' HEX then click "OK" Your cursor shoul now be flashing in front of a block of figures 4 rows long, then a break, then another 4 figures etc. Now right click and select "paste" then click "FILE", "SAVE AS" and name it xtreme.bin. This should now work when flashed to your drive (fingers crossed)

Just for reference, the card that I finally got working (Highpoint RocketRAID 1xxx, chipset named either HPT374 (on-chip) or HPT1103 (in msinfo32)) was great for reading / writing with MTKFlash but sucked for everything else.

First of all, it takes forever to boot. I assume that it boots fast once a RAID array is created, but that is not what we are doing here. Second, I couldnt get the TS-H943 recognized in windows at all with this card.

Once I flashed with the Xtreme0800 firmware, I put the CompUSA SiL3512 back in my PC and connected the TS0H943 to that. Worked perfectly in windows.

So for now I am stuck swapping PCI cards in my PC until I find one that does it all. (I could just keep both cards in, but that Highpoint card is super-annoyingly slow when booting)

BTW, are any mods going to edit the main page of this thread with all the findings thus far?

I confirm exactly what he said. I've flashed my drive with the Highpoint RocketRAID 1520 after hex-editing mtkflash, and windows will not recognize the drive. Also confirm it runs slow as hell on boot. My compusa doesn't have any of the Sil3512 chipsets, so I might see if my drive will work under windows using a 3112 chipset(I know it's confirmed I can't flash with it, but I doubt anybody has tried windows yet). I'll confirm after trying a 3112 chipset. (It's the only option I've got over the weekend so I might as well try it)

Me too, I got the highpoint rocketraid 1640, works in dos for reading/writing the firmware but a no go in windows.

PS I also had major problems writing to floppy, I popped in a 10gb hdd and formatted it in fat32 mode then had no problems reading firmware

Im officially jumping on this card's metaphorical bandwagon Tongue

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815124022

14.50 shipped and it has the VIA VT6421L chipset. Dumps and writes like a champ. Um what more could you want. I've messaged a few people about the 0800 firmware Windows compatability because I'm not 100% positive (though there's a very good chance) that it works, but let's face it. Worst case scenario you buy a second Syba card with a Silicon Image chipset ($12.99 Newegg i love you) and you're completely set. Woohoo. Also guess what people... it's n00b friendly!!!! Cheesy You can once again leech off the smart people yay! Hex editing already done for you. Here's your link http://tinyurl.com/q5q94

All the credit goes to r3zon8 for the find. I challenge anyone to find a better solution Tongue

P.S. I'll be sure to post when I find out about the 0800 firmware. Either when someone speaks up or I get the card in the mail myself.

EDIT: According to tbird a few pages back the only 0800 firmware issues he had were due to lousy motherboard drivers. More updates soon

can anyone confirm if this card detects the xbox360 dvdrom when windows has been booted.

My board worked just fine. In the bios i set IDE 1 and Ide 0 to "none"  then turned on sata 2 in integrated devices.booted my pc to the floppy when at the A: i turned on the 360 and dumped my firmware. I had sata o and sata 1 on the motherboard I plugged it in to 1 and also chose 1 after i typed the command to dump.

Well...having problems with nforce4...
BTW, there are some motherboards, that have nforce 410 chipset, instead of nf4....
Someone got it working? Cause mtkflash NF4 version, hangs before let you choose sata port...
Till now, nforce 410 chipset isnt working, tried everything, turn on xbox360 first, later, etc...changin all options in bios...

Mtkflash allways hangs in   "Port: 170, Master/Slave: a0  "

My nforce did that. I think it means you might have to plug the sata cable into sata port 4 if you have one. Give it a try anyway

I can confirm that an Asus P4P800SE with ICH5 sata controller works. Make sure that the samsung is the only sata or ide device attached ! I change bios setting IDE ENHANCED to IDE COMPATIBLE for it to work.

Well, confirmed, nforce 410 isnīt working....when disconnected all the IDE drives, mtk-nf4 cant find the samsung drive...just say "no drive", with any method....
So, for people with nforce 410 the only chance could be hex editing mtk... Shocked

Help!

I have Asus A8N5X Motherboard with nf4 sata.(Sil 3114)
I have sucessfully back up my TS drive FW using mtkflash(hex edit version for nf4) No problems.
I then flashed my TS drive with 0800 FW. No problems.
Powered everything off.
I then booted PC and TS drive connected and powered on. Bios detects TS drive. BUT hangs on XP boot logo at start.

Any fix for this?

I have a via 6421 sata card and I can flash it with no problems but when Windows starts up it freezes. If I let it keep loading Windiws will start up but it doesn't see the drive and I cant eject the Xbox 360 dvd drive.

I too have the VIA 6421 card, but once it is detected in the boot up process, it freezes.

What "driver" are you using for it? I have Version - 5.20C
