cool video!

Since I am currently w/o a floppy drive, I'm booting into DOS from a boot CD with ntfs4dos.
I leave my 360 off while booting into DOS. Prior to running MTKFLASH I boot the 360 with the dvd drive's SATA plugged into the 360's mobo. Once fully booted, I unplug the 360 DVD drive from the 360 and hook it to my Primary SATA connection.  I run mtkflash r /m orig.bin but it does not detect my SATA port (only my IDE DVD drives).

I reboot my computer leaving my 360 on, go back to DOS, run mtkflash again, this time it detects my master/slave IDE ports and the #3 option is my primary VIA 8237 SATA port.

I select 3 and it hangs.

I'm using the orginal mtkflash that has not been hex modified.  I have SATA RAID disabled.  Any suggestions or tips I might of overlooked?  It is pretty late :-D

For the record, I'm using an Abit AV8 mobo with K8T800Pro chipset and VIA VT8237R SATA which comes up as VIA 8237 with mtkflash (when it does come up at all)

dem0nk1d , glad you figured it out.

One thing about NTFSDOS.EXE. I had issues with it. It didn't like some of my NTFS drives, especially when I started going more than 1 folder level deep... I decided it was too flakey. Luckily I still have (1) FAT32 partition, so I used that...

Hey Everyone,

Finally dumped my firmware, patched the key, and wrote it back to the 360.  Playing originals like the first day I bought it.  Haven't tried backups yet.

I orginally tried to dump my firmware using the VIA chipset, and had the drive recognized but it just wasn't working well.

I went to Microcenter bought a motherboard on clearance for $40 bucks with sata using NF4 chipset.  Went to my friends house and put it into his PC (seeing I only have a laptop) and with using hexedited mtkflash dumped my firmware in seconds.  Only 360 toshiba was connected and was recognized right away without any hassle.

NF4 chipset is so easy to use I would recommend that route.

I have a NF4 chipset available as well (Asus A8N5X mobo). did you hexedit the mtkflash yourself (if so, can you post it)? or did you use the MTK-NF4 version that was already modified for NF4 chipsets?  I can get the 360 dvd-rom to even be recognized in the Bios but when I run MTKFLASH NF4 version, it stalls again.

Perhaps it is using the CD drive & NTSF4DOS that's causing a problem...

I will be obtaining a floppy drive & FAT32 partition tomorrow to try that out I guess.  I feel like I'm soooo close, yet soooo far!

I used the mtkflash NF4 version and it worked like a charm.  Did you disable sata bootrom, I know Germania said that this caused mtkflash to hang, but he was using a VIA chipset.

i used KDX 1.2 and cut and pasted my key to Xtreme.bin saved and updated flash with new bios...  Drive works but doesn't read orginal disc.  Is it because it wrote the key in the wrong place.  Also the document says "include your dvd key from your orginal firmware (usually at $4000" yada yada....   Well looks good to me just doesn't read my orginal.  going to rest back to orginal firmware and see what goes on.

the key has to go in the exact same place it was in in your original. and make sure you overwrite, not insert.

*UPDATE*

I created a FAT32 partition and put mtkflash on it. That made all the difference in the world.

Followed dem0nk1d's video as far as the order of things...

360 off, boot PC into DOS, went to a FAT32 partition, booted 360 with dvd drive still attached to 360. waited till 360 fully booted.  unplug sata from 360 dvd drive and plugged into my VIA 8237 onboard SATA port. then ran c:\mtkflash r /m orig.bin and selected the primary SATA and BOOM! worked!!!  I almost went into shock after I've been typing that command for 2 days w/ errors & hangs...

THANK YOU EVERYONE! and i hope my pain might help others too.

...I'll be back if I hit another bump in the road  Grin

I would insert you key manually using a hex editor.  It's much safer and you know exactly were your key is going.

No offense to any one who created these wonderful tools, I just like seeing the key patched with my own eyes.

There is a great tutorial on xbox-scene.  If you have questions we can help you through it.

flashed back to orginal firmware.  booted an orginal game worked fine.  hex edited xtreme manualy. updated to modded firmware. and still doesn't boot orginal.

************************************EDITED POST   *********************

Well I figured it out I was only inserting the key that kdx gave me which is some what correct.  the program more or less only gives you the key but not all the infomation infront of the key displayed in the program.. ...  I guess what i am saying is I fixed it, I am tired and going to bed.  If you need help I would suggest http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=513220  Topic on how to insert your key...

When i get time I over the weekend I will try to put a whole video together to help people out.  Thanks for everyone that has help me on my Quest. LOL!!  Thanks guys...

Ok those ebay cards from a few posts ago probably aren't gonna work.  Embarrassed
I've just recieved one and it says it has a sil3122 chipset. The point is all the drivers that come with the card are for sil3112 chipsets which don't work at all.
I can't try them out before tuesday so if anyone hasn't already confirmed it working or not before tuesday you'll hear from me then.

I know al silicon image chipsets don't work, and my MOBO doesn't have
SATA (yeah i know  Cry)

I was looking at this card :

http://www.sweex.com/product.asp?pid=328

to those worride about the "drive not detected" on the via raid bois, you have to hot swap with something on the sata port. the port I am using on my card is the one at the rear of the card (away from the back of the case.. toward the front of case, not one on same side as Parallel ATA IDE port.

heres EXACYTLY what i did / do

1. hook up sata HD to master port ( i used 360 hd, what u use is up to u)
2. hooked up Pata CD ROM (parallel standard IDE) to the ata133 port (with wide IDE cable NOT SATA)
3. booted to dos with floppy.
4. unhooked SATA from HDD and swapped for 360 DVD
5. ran editied mtkflash and picked 1. primary master
6. got very happy $#!t worked

Ive been reading on this hack since it first broke but am wary about this SATA connection since ive never used it before. Soldering and hacking the original xbox was no problem but all this SATA talk is confusing, not the flashing just which sata works and what does not. This is my mainbord specs, could i get a little help to be pushed in the right direction. Thanks. It says its * MCH with Intel ICH5 * Supports Ultra DMA 150 Serial ATA device. Do I need to buy somthing to use SATA.
