Does anyone have a hex edited MTKFLASH for the VIA VT8237R chipset?  I can detect the drive using the standard MTKFLASH but program hangs when trying to read FW.

Thanks, hope I'm not too n00bie  Grin

I noticed http://www.xboxhacker.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=33&topic=883.0 was just created for posting hex edited mtkflash's.  Good idea!

I got the VIA VT6421 card today at Fry's but I had to get one a bit different than the one posted here because those were sold out here in Phoenix.  I ended up getting this other one but everytime I try to boot with the DVD Drive connected it says

"Hardware initiate failed, Please Check Device!!!
The Bios does not be installed. Press <g> to continue!."

If I turn on the XBOX while the drive is connected to the PCI card it just freezes on me.  Anyone got any tips.  Thx.

Went out and bought the card at fry's (PPA Int'l VIA 6421 PCI CArd)  Detects nothing at all.  I then connected the 360 drive to my normal sata on my mobo.  It detects it under the pc bios but m*flash doesn't have ATI driver support.  So whats the deal with the PPA Int'l card?  i have tried on both sata connections...

oh here is a correct manufactor link for the card...  http://www.ppa-usa.com/product_pages/sata/1301.htm

Did you use the Modified MTKFLASH Firmware for VIA 6421?

the edited MTKFLASH.exe is in page 4 here  http://www.xboxhacker.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=33&topic=794.60
on a post by tbirdguy or you can get it from here.

http://rapidshare.de/files/20676748/MTKFLASHvia.zip.html

That is the direct download of MTK i have been trying to get to work with the PCI SATA card.  I have m.flash to read the drive for a split second and then doesn't find the drive.  This is what I did... Also i have tried a few ways... This one brought it up once.

Powered up my pc disable the onboard sata.
Skips the SATA PCI card boot up process since the Samsung is not hooked
Boots into DOS
boot x360.  power Samsung drive.
Plug Samsung into Sata Ch0 on the PCI CARD.

then type in the following command.

MTKFLASH /SATA r /m Stock.bin

It displays the drive is hooked up then fails... gives me...

ERR fail to open output file.

The attahced MTKflash 1.83c has been edited to work with VIA VT6421 SATA RAID CONTROLLER PCI

Here is the card:  $9.99 from newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815124022

I have successdully dumped and flashed with it using the follwing procedure
-Disable my onboard Sil3112
-Power PC, Boot to DOS using floppy, SATA CARD will complain that no drives were found as so BIOS was not loaded.
-Attach SATA cable from H943 to CHAN0 of SATA PCI CARD and POWER 360
-mtkflash r /m orig.bin
done!
to write: mtkflash w /m new.bin

dem0nk1d , your card says VIA8237. That is a problem. That is not a VIA6421L as the chipset has printed on it.

* Make sure you have the mtkflash.typ file on your floppy disk (don't understand what "input" file it is looking for).

* You can do either /m or /sata, pick one  Wink

* The command should be "firm r /m orig.bin" (you renamed mtflash.exe to firm.exe? shouldn't matter lol) (didn't try c:\orig.bin myself, can't vouch for it). If you can access c:\, why not put all your mtkflash files, .bin files on c:\, and just run it from there after you boot to DOS?

Also, what filesystem is your C drive? You shouldn't be trying to write to an NTFS drive from DOS.

I just renamed it... mk* to firm.exe ...   on the card it's self says printed on the chip... "V6421L" WTF... this blows girthy donkey shlong...

also installed the windoze drivers for the pci card.  here is what msinfo32.exe gives back...  so i have no idea why it says differntly, it's a VT6421.
also there is no bios options for the card either... oh well... now what trail and error.. looks like i am going to the liquor store for a beer now...  lol.

Hey guys,

My TS-H943 is going to be here tomorrow.  I have the VIA 8237 chipset that I posted the info for a few pages back.  I'm assuming that since MTKflash supports the 8237 as is I won't have to edit it.  I'm also assuming from everything that I've read that I have to use dos.  I cannot seem to get the MTKflash and Firmware files to show up on a bootable DOS ISO.  It's rather disturbing.  Anyone got a good idea on where to find a bootable DOS ISO that supports NTFS so I can flash from my C drive?  I'm d/l'ing Hirens now, will that work?

if you rename mtkflash.exe you need to aslo rename mtkflash.typ but why bother? You need mtkflash R /M /SATA c:\origin.bin make sure c is accesible and you can write to it! (yes both /M and /SATA)

Figured out what the issue was.  I was using the wrong m*flash for my PCI Card's via chipset.  So just make sure you run the correct m*flash.exe alsi i just renamed mine to the chipset number...  I am going to post a video how to...  get the samsung to read under the FRY's (PPA INT'l SATA CARD) below.  I hope this doesn't hog all of my bandwith on my website... also my site is www.n0cturnal-labs.org if you guys would like to check it out... it's in the beta stages as of now....

is it correct to assume there's a difference between the VIA 8237 chipset and the VIA VT8237R chipset? again my ignorance is showing through.
