Had a 360 with error code 0020. I took apart the 360 and i fiddled around with the OOD power conector cord and the error went away. So i think that error code 0020 is the 360's way of telling you check the OOD power cord. Just tryin to help anyone who gets this error.

towell method is a really bad idea, do the xclamp - it worked for like 330 people (according to x-s)

Don't do the towel trick that is really taking a chance of making the issue worse than it already is. You need to read up on replacing the X-Clamps.

lawdawg's method works, but the author (lawdawg that is) said that RJB's method is better and he recommends it - here it is

RJB's method is the exact same thing, except for lots more work and larger screws. there's no reason to use that.

I've used RBJ's method several times now and it does indeed work. I've used Lawdogs method now a couple of times and it seems to work just as good. I say the less parts I have to buy and the easier the fix is if it works, go with that one. I'll be using Lawdog's method until I find a reason not to.

Arakon is right and Lawdog's fix is also easily reversible if needed ...;0).... so implementing it is a preventive measure would also make it a better choice of the two. I would have choosen it over the later if know about, but considering I am out of warranty on this unit I it really does'nt matter now. The out come so far looks to be the same no need to piss all over some ones corn flakes....Both are good Mods.

Thanks for all your guy's tips I did replace the xclamps after the 3 ring of death came back I accidentally knocked off a cap but what i dont understand now is my 360 starts with a 3ROD ever time the first time<i.e. last code was 0110 then 0020 etc> but when i reboot it again 1-3 secs later it works like new. hmmm dunno if the cap could really affect it that much. think the cap was connected to the fans since every time I boot to dash the fans are going stronger then they used to even when the 360 is still cool. I only replaced the GPU and not the CPU. think that might make a difference?

hmm interestingly enought the 3 red rings at bootup have dissapeared but a new problem arises -_- one more anoying my 360 will freeze and then have a checkerboard type display on it at random times, it will also freeze and then go black or just freeze compleatly. from one problem to another. I was wondering if anyone else has had this type of problem before and if they were able to fix it? Extra info-everytime it freezes the ring stays green. so i couldnt grab an error code

You really need to get your GPU reflowed. Do a google search for BGA rework and find a good company.

So i think that error code 0020 is the 360's way of telling you check the OOD power cord. This error can also be caused by a bad/missing/broken SMD cap on the back of the CPU/GPU - for those of you that don't believe me or want to make fun...get stuffed in advance gigabite

From what I have been able to find so far; error 21 is a Southbridge general hardware failure and 20 is a General GPU hardware failure. For every unit that showed reworked was needed to the Southbridge we always found code 21. For any unit that has needed rework to the GPU (usually a open between CPU/GPU I/O lines) I found the board had a 0020 error. Memory lines open of course were 0110.
