I  got a 79fk should i wait for the new toolbox with 79fk support or should i desolder chip. I have a programmer .
I need to flash in the next week , just wondering if it will be released in the next week.
If someone like garyopa can comment i will appreciate. My friend has been waiting for a while, I would hate to desolder then find out it just got released.

Then you're f*cked for now. 79fk isn't soft flashable for now. There is indeed a rumour it will be flashable with a new toolbox, but for sure that won't be next week.

Only option at this time and the foreseable future is desolder it and program with programmer.

Dude if you can dump the firmware for 79fk just buy a 0046d from etech for sale. extract key from 79fk with maximus toolbox 3.1 repack b1. add key to 0046d then flash 0046d. drive probably only about $30.00.probably 95% success rate. But microsoft is now banning flashed firmware boxes from live. why not use modchip like nme? also if you buy spare if you brick drive you still have original.
all xbox 360 is miniature pc. I solve most problems same way by swapping parts. I still can't understand why some pc techs and network gurus are afraid to mod an xbox360. The way i see it if you can build repair a pc. Xbox360 modding is a breeze. I was a Network Admin before i started xbox modding. The fact that xbox/xbox 360 is so similar to pc repair is what drew me to it. Wink

Fred don't give too much hope dude. There is only confirmation that they're working on it. But working on it doesn't mean they succeed (soon).

I don't expect the next toolbox to support 79fk drives. But I am not making it, neither fred is, it's pure guessing at this point in time. Only thing that I know is that I haven't read any progress lately on softflashing the 79fk drives. Thus, I think we're not the persons that should tell you if it comes or not.

Techie is right, you could buy another drive from etech. Only problem, at this point in time, its recommended also to use the original drive in the 360.

Ah well. If you have the time, wait untill the next toolbox, and if its not supported you have to wait longer or desolder the chip and use the programmer. I'm pretty sure it will be the last option there you have to use.

Xecuter X79 Mod for the Hitachi 079
>> From Team Xecuter:

Unusual request but we require Hitachi 079 Firmware dumps. If you have one could you please send it to admin /AT/ team-xecuter.com
As far as we know there are 4 different firmwares where the drive key starts at: 4B00, 4C30, 4D20 and 4E10
We have the 4B00 but need the others - many thanks

I've just been hit with about 200 emails asking why we want the Hitachi 079 firmwares lol
Well first stop sending emails if you are not sending me the firmware - thanks

OK, well we have made a mod that completely converts the Hitachi 079 drive so that it switches to modeb (no SLAX needed) and all read / write capabilities are operational in Windows using Maximus Toolbox etc (Hopefully Maximus will now add USB support to his app for the 078 / 079 drives now as that would be perfect). This mod does NOT hack the drive so you can boot backups. We feel that any kind of hardware mod to do that is a waste of time now so it is best to update to the latest firmwares via flashing - which you currently cannot do with the Hitachi 079 (until now of course)

We are missing a couple of firmwares, but as soon as we get those will only take a few hours to finish and the mod will be ready to ship (we used the same design as our old X78 mod however that never shipped as there wasn't much point in the end).

Thanks goto Gary OPA, C4EVA & Maximus for their efforts and contributions.

anyone know if these babies have started to ship yet ?

Just one question. Why is  it recommended to use the original drive in the 360?
In the hitachi key insertion pdf tut i downloaded, one guy accidentally bricked his hitachi drive.
But since he already extracted the key he was able to use a replacement hitachi.
Another thing i've never been a fan of softmods since xbox. I have a xenium spice and whenever I
went on live i booted the ms bios and was never banned. That is why I prefer hard mods because they can be turned off.
It seems even if it is not detected right now sooner or later MS will find a way to ban boxes with hacked firmware.
Ok I have seen guys playing halo 2 softmodded. But they are limited they can't match make. they can only play in invite games or be banned. So hard mods right now only boot backups at present, but most can be switched off. granted if you never use
xbox live it probably doesn't matter. Smiley
