Will my backup work that I made using the Xtrm0800.bin work in my buddies Sammy 360 drive (I have a sammy drive as well that I used to extract the SS.)? I plan on going over there and flashing it with the Xtreme.bin firmware today.

Also, with the ss, do you do those 4 commands seperately then combine the 4. Also someone who has got this working explain in detail what they di to get the ss extracted properly. Thanks

LilaQ: Has been asked more than a billion times!!!! It will be released, you just have to wait. Same for everyone else, stop asking! Cyber_two: Don't ask to download. Go look for it yourself, same goes for everyone else, stop asking! John: When you download the extreme firmware package, read the readme.txt. It's pretty self explanatory. I believe i saw a thread somewhere here with a pic by pic tutorial (stripping the dvdrom drive out of the 360 chassis).

KAL,read before u post I had a Perfect Dark Zero iso i made with WXripper using the hotswap method. I overwrote the area of the image with the correct SS and it boots fine. So if you have already riped you games with WXRipper you can write the SS at offset FD8F800. then rename to IMAGE.000 and burn with the included IMAGE.dvd for 360.
It boots fine. I heard a stutter when first loading(reading the SS probably) but after that it worked fine in game without slow down. maybe a slight increase in load times. I burned at 2.4x

Now that we do have a working firmware hack (I'm not really interested in backups anyway), I'm curious if we can take this a step further.
From what I understand, after the Challenge/Response protocol, the 360 will read the entire XEX file and verify its RSA (?) signature. Seeing as how some of these xex files are really large, I doubt the entire thing will be read to memory and stored there. I would guess that it will only read the whole thing during the signature verification process, and after that it will probabbly use paged memory accesses to the data from the dvd drive.
Now, here's a far fetched idea... if we could track exactly how the 360 reads the sectors for an xex file (using a LA or whatever), could we not create a DVD firmware such that during the first full read of the sectors related to the xex file, it will return the original sectors to ensure that the 360 can verify its RSA signature, and after we are sure the signature was verified, we could return a modified sector instead of a valid "executable code" sector containing our own code to execute (this being a homebrew game or a linux loader). Again, this might not work since we don't know how the 360 internally keeps tracks of the sectors, but nevertheless, if someone at M$ failed to see this a potentional hole to exploit the system, we may have a potential method to start running our own code.

I'll give someone $100 to upgrade my firmware (and confirm you can play back-ups). My e-mail address is in my profile if anyone will do it.

Sure.. I can do it for you but you need to mail me your Xbox360... You have to hack the firmware for the drive you are going to use it on.. Each drive is unique with its own key..

From the Readme.txt
"Ensure your burner will set the booktype of DVD+R DL to DVDRom"
Can someone please elaborate on what this means? Maybe put up a snapshot of the "DVDRom" option being selected.
Also, what hex editting program do you use (people who have made this work)
At what point do I extract my key from the original FW? Is that when I make the backup of the orig fw?
From reading the Readme, it seems like you need to flash the fw with xtrm0800.bin to make copies of your originals, then xtreme.bin to play the backups? Is this correct?
If so, does that mean I flash with xtrm0800.bin make backups of my games, then flash with xtreme.bin? And if I aquire another orig game, I need to flash it again with the xtrm0800.bin make the backup, then reflash with xtreme.bin?
