Title. Any ideas?
Tried discounting all my IDE's and stuff still won't work.. I believe I have ICH5 SATA onboard controller.
I actually get the The chip type, and the start of flashing with everything connected..
Start my PC with MS28 connected to my PC through SATA Onboard ICH5 and Xecuter connectivity. With VCC switch off.
Check my bios and drive is there.
Boot to dos through USB
I run the command mtkflash r /m orig.bin
Get my 4 options I press 3 for the drive.
It stops.
If I set it up and have four option. With VCC off, I disconnect the power, let it relax for a second. With the power off I turn on the VCCm and quickly plug in the power then press 3
The chip type appears, and says "Reading 00%" then freezes.

have you flashed your drive in the past? if yes...you have to get your drive in 0800 mode...(burn 0800.iso and insert it for 10 secs in 360 drive before flashing)
if its your first time though the most likely thing is that you dont have a compatible sata controller...even if your drive is in the list (i had the same problem with an ms28)

ICH5 is supported. Using the VCC method. It should work. If it wouldn't I couldn't even get the chip flash to show true?
It won't dump. It says "Reading 00%" don't move..
i'm obviously doing something wrong. Might jsut need to buy a VIA sata controller.

i dont think that you re doing something wrong... its some sort of compatibility problem even if you get the chip flash to show true... i had the exact problem with a ULi sata controller...it would see the drive but stopped when dumping...
i think that if you get a VIA controller you would be fine...

For ANY NON VIA chipset, you NEED the enable 0800 disk.....the "VCC trick" will work no matter what chipset, no 0800 disk needed

It's a virgin drive. What does the 0800 disc need to be needed? I have it but if it's virgin, and using VCC method what will the 0800 disc needed for?

If it's a drive that's never been flashed then you do NOT need to use the enable 0800 disk, the enable 0800 disk is a special disk which unlocks the "firm guard" protection on the hacked firmware (firm guard is a special protection the hacked firmware has which does not allow any read/write ing of the firmware), if your using a non VIA chipset, then use the VCC trick

So....What media do you need to burn the activate.iso (0800) disk too? I'm working on a ms28 that has 4.2 firmware with e66 error after latest update. after I do the VCC it still sits at 00%. was thinking that the 0800 disk might help.
Don't confuse this with the 0800.bin use for backing up games. I'm not reffering to that.
A) DVD +DL B) DVD -R C) DVD +R D) CDROM -R ?? or does this even matter?
peace, zil

YOU DO NOT NEED THE 0800 DISC PERIOD.
The disc is just for easy use if you've already flashed the firmware before.
If you have flashed firmware and still doing the VCC then you don't need the disc.. You should've used the disc in the first place but since you're doing VCC the disc is not needed.
If you use Bad Flash recovery the disc is NOT needed.. The disc makes everything easier if YOU'VE FLASHED ALREADY. BUT NOT NEEDED.
You can badlfash, or VCC an already flashed drive. No disc.
I'm having a timing issue or something. If any one has used ICH5 sata controller onboard and also used VCC then please tell me how you flashed MS28 with this setup.
Thanks so far for all suggestion. I read your post in another thread Gigabite. But your suggestion didn't help me. Tried it numerous times.

i just did an ms28 on my ich5 the other day the only way i could get it to flash was with a wierd powering scheme i had to turn on the pc with a sata hd connected and power on the dvd drive when all the way into dos hot swap the sata cable run mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin the drive list will come up dont press the button yet power down the dvd drive and flip the vcc switch to off power on the drive and right after its powered on flip the vcc switch to on and press 3 no idea why but it works everytime for me this way
Edit: nevermind saw the thread where your missing the pad....

No. I fixed it. The pad I lifted runs left into the other resistor. So A wire from the left resistor bottom pad to the top "RED" pad fixed it. No problems.
