Hello,
I got somebody who has a Xbox360 with a Samsung ms25 drive.
Here the history:
1) Xbox360 drive was updated with Xtreme 4.2a on 2th of november 2006 2) Fall update installed 3) After that time, user played online with non-stealth backups 4) Before Spring update was released, user stopped playing online 5) Xbox360 drive was updated from 4.2a to iXtreme (iXtreme firmware 1.0 for TS-H943 Xbox 360) When we created the new firmware, the following error was seen:
*** WARNING *** Drive versions do not match!!! Would you like to copy the orig.bin version to ix10.bin? (Y/N):
We choose No, and wrote the firmware to the drive
6) Then with iXtreme, user connected xbox360 to the internet, tried to connect to Xbox Live, and the following status code Z: 8015 - 190D was seen, so console was banned.
How could this be possible ? Has somebody an explanation for this ?

It is said that MS was already collecting data from the Fall update on...
Thus there you have it. Combined with non stealth backups... banned

The concept of fall updates starting the catalog of infringements and tagging has been discussed and confirmed. Please read up on some of the threads.

By the sheer number of people that have been banned prior to downloading the spring update. I alone know of 5 people that have been banned when attempting to download the spring update. They didn't have a backup in the drive at the time and were banned before being allowed to download the update. That tells me that all of the banning checks were done with the fall update not the spring one. There are plenty of others online that have stated as much as well. That's what I meant when I said confirmed. I am not saying the spring update doesn't contain other stuff as well that could lead to banning, just that it would be in addition to the fall. Do you think that there is another explanation that I am not thinking of? Cal

When we created the new firmware, the following error was seen:
*** WARNING *** Drive versions do not match!!! Would you like to copy the orig.bin version to ix10.bin? (Y/N):
We choose No, and wrote the firmware to the drive
If the playing non-stealth didin't do it, the drive version has changed aswell. Going from reporting as ms25 to now reporting as ms28. You MUST choose to match the strings otherwise you accept the default version in the iXtreme fw (ms28). It is speculated elsewhere that a change in version is also logged and flags you for a ban. Don't ask me for a link ... search. I found it by reading these forums everyday. slightly off topic : So far 3 days into my test ... non banned yet. Samsung with iXtreme, never been online b4 but had : 1. C4E FW 2.0 on it before test 2. played crackdown (so had upto date dashboard) 3. played backups (mix of stealth / non-stealth, possibly only stealth since crackdown was played) ( although I can't guarantee that a non-stealth wasn't played since the update) I upgraded the fw to iXtreme and then tested my stealth collection in it Then I connected to live and got the latest dasboard update I have been playing originals on live for 3 days not holding TOO much hope, it's a sacraficial lamb of sorts as a mate gave it to me for the test (he doesn't even have broadband).

There are plenty of others online that have stated as much as well. That's what I mean by confirmed. Cal Around here confirmed means there is technical, repeatable proof. Anyhing else is just speculation. It doesn't matter how many noobs agree on something, that is not proof. Look at fuzzylogics post for an example of something that is "confirmed" http://www.xboxhacker.net/index.php?topic=7599.40

There have been more updates between the fall update and the spring update...... Caster.

The online folks may very well have been mistaken, but the other 5 that I know of are techies and I can trust them to have articulated what their experience in a competant manner and they did get banned before downloading the spring update. I cannot attest to the others online. Cal

There have been more updates between the fall update and the spring update...... Caster. Point taken. I should have simply speculated that the checks were in place prior to the spring update rather than stating they reside in the Fall Update. Cal

I have two scenarios:
A: My own box. Haven't taken the spring update, but have all other updates. I have never hooked it up to live, but will as soon as iExtreme comes out. Its properly banned due to playing un-patched games, but we will see.
B: I have a mate that has an un-updated xbox. Where can I see what updates he has? The newest game he owns/plays/allows in his xbox is Madden 07, and the game is from about august 06.
I will flash it when the iExtreme comes out, and take it online (he has never had it online). It will be more exciting to see if this one is banned, if it ain't im switching it with my own.
EDIT: We both have the Hitachi drives.

I have a similar situation...
My 360 died with the 3ROL about a week prior to the spring update. I will be getting it back from MS repair on Monday. It is flashed with Xtreme 42a and I did use backups of my originals (non-stealth) online and offline prior to it dying.
I plan to only use my originals on LIVE when I get my 360 back. My question is if I don't change my firmware and go on LIVE, accept the spring update and play original games online, will I still get banned due to what I did in the past? Or if I go back to my original firmware before going online will this help or is it too late?
Will updating to iXtreme prevent any problems?
I plan to play by the rules on LIVE and only use originals but I'm unsure what direction to take to prevent being banned. Any advice?
Thanks,
XBD

it's hard to say because a lot of people are saying MS has been flagging boxes before the spring update

MS may still be collecting information when you play backups offline... If you want to be comepletely safe... obviously don't mod your new box... Second best.. when you get it flash with new new Iextreme.. as it may offer some protection.. if you dont play any backups on live you are probably further protected.. It's all shades of gray... You have to be comfortable with the risk you are taking.

MS is sending my same 360 back, so it's not a new/refurbished one. In fact they repaired it with the drive still modded.
So that's my dilemma. I figure if I go change the firmware, they might detect that and ban me. I heard several people flashed back to the original firmware and still got banned. So I don't know which way to go, kind of damned if you do/damned if you don't.
I'm going to use originals only online. I'm kind of tempted just to leave the firmware at extreme 42a, put my original Madden in and go online and see what happens. Then if I don't get banned at some point later flash to iextreme. Then I can use my backups offline hopefully.
What do you guys think. If you were in the same situation what would you do?
1. Leave it at Extreme42a and try playing original online 2. Flash back to original firmware and try playing original online or 3. Flash to Iextreme and try playing an original online
Thanks!
