Hello
my samsung drive in a jap NTSC J console made november 2006 is making noises while playing some games. not all of my games exhibit this problem but only the ones that i have bought in the past 2 weeks such as Rainbow six vegas, Saint's Row,Just cause etc. All of my old games 20 or so perform without a problem. i got this console last month it was modified when i bought it. i have never opened it myself. This is my second 360. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
PS: Both the original dics and backup copies result in the noise.

Will lens cleaner discs help cause today when i put in a gears if war backup it did not get detected and after 20 seconds of reading it just gave an open tray message but it started working after 10 or so tries.
PS: sometimes when i press the eject button the tray comes out with the disc spinning inside

yes the drive is dieing, EPSPECIALLY if you open the tray and the disk is still spinning.

its trying to read it but it cant and the drive motor isnt stopping when its told to.

junk it, and get a replacement.
but first boot up and copy off the firmware so you can get your key as you'll need that to flash the new drive.
and be sure to emulate the new drive as the old one. if you buy an MS25 but it originally had an MS28 then tell the firmware toolbox or Xtreme Boot Maker to emulate it as an MS28. or Hitachi or whatever.

and lastly i think people need to be more cautious about buying used modded xbox's. i see way way too many people here and other forums saying their used modded units that they bought modded are dying.

i have seen the same thing happen also to other, old games work new games dont, or all the sudden new backups dont work but old ones do, even when using the same DVD media.

the drive is toast, get it out and get hte firmware key off it before it totally dies and your screwed.

Well i just opened my 360 and guess what i found the problem was? I keep my discs in a CD book. the disc covers/holders are made up of cloth like cotton wool. Pieces of this cloth from my CD book were stuck in the disk spinning motor so it was it spinning properly. Well i carefully remooved all of them (there were a lot of them) and then the drive started working fine. No more noise or discs spinning when i eject them. Every game backup or original is working ok now. So I guess this was the problem.
