I see everyone has posted about DVD-Power adapters...

What I use for a power source is exactly this: http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-To-SATA-IDE-2-5-3-5-Hard-Drive-CD-Rom-Cable-A0_W0QQitemZ300117982163QQihZ020QQcategoryZ74941QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?refid=store

I didn't buy it from ebay, but what I have looks like exactly the same thing. I bought it because I move my DVD burner around frequently and ended up using the whole setup to backup games.

No luck with a sammy here with the diygadget connectors. it's not my chipset as it works with the 10 sec trick using the 360. also works with every hatachi I've tried. cept 0079 as I don't have one. need other's to confirm 0079 with that connector.

do any of the other connector's work for the sammy and allow flashing without the 360 attached? and what is the 360 doing in those 10 secs (can this be emulated?)

Didn't someone say there was no proof that banning is done by NO-DVD errors, what happened to unplugging the video cable (4 red lights)?

I'm sure it's much safer to use external though.

Use the 360's power supply but DO NOT hookup the video cable.  This will prevent the 360 from booting, but it will still power the drive for 5 min (plenty of time to flash).
NOT 4 HL of course!!!!

I just wanna flash the drive, nothing else. So will this work? With all the Xbox360 Drives? And what does HL mean?
HL = Hitachi-LG

You can flash a sammy very quickly so 5 min is plenty of time.
For hitachi it may be hard, if you plan on using slax then booting to windows.

It likely doesnt matter.  Noone is even 100% certain that the 360 will log the error, and if MS would even ban if they seen it.  There are plenty of 'possible' faliures that could break the sata connection causing the same error, would repair shops be expected to clear the error log?  IMHO It's not likely MS would ban over this.
