I've thought about powering the DVD from the PC instead of using the console as a powersupply when flashing (as this might get logged which might lead to a ban).

I found nothing about it in this forum, I checked a pdf with hardware info and got the pinout, but then I found "WunSick's" information that it wasn't as easy as connecting 3.3, 5, 12V and GND to the unit...  special grounding technique or something like that it said...

Finally I found a schematic:
http://xbox360.qj.net/Xbox-360-DVD-Adapter-Diagram-and-Parts-List/pg/49/aid/27619

And it seemed to be exactly as easy as connecting the voltages directly, and hook up a switch to the open/close pin.  ;-)

I plan to use the 3.3V directly from the PC PSU, just add the cable, and a switch to be able to open and close the tray - since there's no button with a X360 attached to it...   :-D

At first I thought the switch might be needed to get an unmodded drive into modeb, but that's grounding pin 9 - the "tray" connector (preferably via a resistor). What is that pin anyway - a status pin that tells if tray is open or closed?

Has anyone tried it or know anything more about it? Everyone doesn't have a Blaster 360, right?

Use the 360's power supply but DO NOT hookup the video cable.  This will prevent the 360 from booting, but it will still power the drive for 5 min (plenty of time to flash).

What about causing the 360 to hang and then disconnect the drive and flash?
i can make it hang with a mpeg file played through media center.

Could the old Xbox be used to power the 360's DVD dirive?  Is it the same connector/pin outs?

There might be many (MANY) reasons for getting banned than using the 360 as a power source. But if it IS a reason, I'd like to minimize the risk, and it would be nice not having to move around the open 360 as well.

I think I have all the wires needed to hook it up directly to the PC right here at home, I'll save my money.  ;-)
Plus - some things are more fun when you do it yourself.   :-D
