Hi

just wondering if someone could give me some quick advice.

I'm sort of a half newb so bear with me.

Basically i need to get rid of all the dashboard bios updates to restore it back to how it was out of the box.

I've been looking through these forums and other related sites and I must be honest I'm a bit overwhelmed and a bit confused. I've not done this before so I'm not sure how difficult it's going to be, I'm pretty good at picking these things up though but I'm guessing it's not as easy as flashing the bios on a PC.

Basically to cut a long story short, I installed firmware on my 360 and a mates' one about a year ago that were brought about a month after the initial launch. About 6 months ago both machines died with 3RLOD within weeks of each other. They were left to rot untill about a month ago where i decided i was going to fix them as i can't live without pro evo soccer and my PC is not gona be up to scratch to play the new one. So I researched on the net, tried a few different methods and I've now got both of them working again!!!

Now annoyingly this wasn't the end of my problems, my mates 360 works flawlessly and connects to live (even with the old firmware!!!) but mine doesn't. Now I know mine hasn't been banned because I get a different error code to the banning codes. It seems the problem i have is caused by one of them great dashboard updates and all the people it's affected have got 'legit' 360's. Basically the 360 can't read live profiles anymore, it does connect to live but crashes half way through the process of recovering gamertags.

anyway, so basically i'm thinking if i can get rid of the dashboard updates and then re-download them i might be able to get rid of the problem and connect to live again.

so what i really want to know is, is it difficult to do this or shall i just end my misery and upgrade my PC because this 360 is going to be the death of me soon  Grin

i've seen alot of stuff about putting linux on and various things like that but i don't want to do any of that, just purely get rid of the dashboard updates.

so if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated as I reckon I'm on the brink of madness  Tongue

you can't get rid of dashboard updates. they are permanently flashed to your MB. you can downgrade using the timing attack, but that's a LOT of effort and you need to solder together your own downgrader.. basically, not an option, especially for this purpose.

either way, there has been no dashboard update that causes issues like you describe.

If you believe a Historical Dash Update has caused this, why not update to the latest Kernel version using a recently released game. Alternatively, If your friend has managed to connect to Xbox Live and has a hard drive, get him to bring his hard drive over to your place and connect it to your Xbox 360.  His Hard Drive will contain the latest Live Dashboard update and will automatically prompt you to update when you connect it to your 360 and power up

thanks for replying arakon.

damnit that's bad news, don't think i'm ever gona be able to fix this. Microsoft support is non existent on this issue and no one has been able to find a fix. Have you ever seen this error code before?

80150003:4294967295 Check storage device/internet connection

this happens about 3/4 of the way through saving/creating a gamertag.

i've done many a test and i've found that it's not the hard drive or the internet connection but the machine itself, this is what lead me to believe getting rid of the updates and starting fresh might sort it out. Many other people have said it started happening after they applied the spring update (that's how long this has been going on for for most people) but I can't confirm that as my machine was out of action at the time and I applied all the latest updates as soon as my 360 was up and running again. Like i said my 360 can't read live profiles and the saved games associated with them, they all say corrupt but if you put the hard drive into another machine they show up and work fine.

Annonying how it didn't happen to my mates when i fixed it and I did the exact same process.

thanks for the advice on the flashing, at least now i won't sit here for a week reading every thread on this forum trying to work it out  Smiley

sry mate was already typing the reply when this came through.

I've tried many a different hard drive on mine, like i say it just shows any live profile as corrupt so is unusable, putting the hard drive back onto the working xbox all the profiles show up fine again.

I can run updates off game disks no problem and also have updated games via xbox live when prompted as there is a connection there it just won't read live profiles so therefore you can't use xbox live. It reads non live profiles with no problem.

I've done many a test using different hard drives, my hard drive on another machine and pinpointed it down to it being solely my machine, nothing to do with the hard drive or the internet connection.

it's a weird one i will admit.  Cry

That is weird.

Stupid thought but maybe you have Parental control enabled which is not allowing you to connect to live?

yeah tried that one before  Wink

i've even tried formatting the hard disk and clearing the cache (although the hard drive isn't the problem) but worth a go.

Also tried setting the network settings back to default factory settings.

it's enough to make you cry  Cry

Maybe it is a problem with your network interface.

Have any of your friends got a 360 Wireless USB device that you could maybe try?

that's the one thing i havn't managed to try. I did go round my mates' cause he has wireless but what he didn't mention before i got there was that he still hard wired his 360 into his wireless router...............doh!

i can't see that working though myself, the problem is the machine can't read live profiles, irrelevant of whether the internet is plugged into my 360 or not, surely the network adapter has nothing to do with actually reading profiles off the hard disk? And i can make a connection to xbox live as i can go through the create/recover gamertag process untill the moment it tries to save the profile on the hard disk or whatever memory device is plugged in at the time. Also I pass the connection test everytime with no problems  Cry

total mystery

no pro evo online for me

Ok last suggestion.

Not too sure if this is true but I think I read this on another forum some time ago.

While your Xbox 360 is off, hold down the Wireless sync button. Keep holding the button down while you power the 360 on and wait until you boot up into the Dashboard before releasing it. That is 'supposed' to clear any failed updates, don't hold your breath though  Smiley

If all else fails, the timing attack (as suggested by Arakon) will work as it flashes a virgin 1888 image to your 360.

What is your current Dashboard Version?

lol funnily enough i've tried the wireless sync button trick aswell  Grin

you can tell i've been on a mission lately to fix this. My last hope was that someone knew how to flash the bios  Cry

i'll check the dashboard version when i get home later, what does the timing attack actually do, is it hard to do?

An exploit was discovered in Kernel (Dashboard) Version 4532 and 4548 which enabled users to execute custom code. This exploit made it possible to boot into Linux. Some Linux scripts were then written to extract the Xbox 360 CPU key which they later found out was needed to downgrade from the higher non exploitable kernels to the ones mentioned above.

When the exploit was made known to Microsoft, they patched it in Kernel update 4552. They blew E-Fuses making it impossible for users to downgrade to the previous exploitable kernel. The fine folks on this site discovered that previous exploitable versions of the Kernel could be reflashed if the CPU key was known. All new Versions of the Kernel above 4548 stopped the exploit from working so again the folks on this site figured out a way (Timing Attack) of downgrading all Versions above 4548 to the Brand new, out the Box, 1888 Version. From this version they could then upgrade to 4532 or 4548 to obtain the very important CPU key.

Obviously this doesn't mean anything to you if you not interested in running homebrew on your 360, BUT, the whole process flashes a Brand New Version of 1888 to your 360, effectively taking the Dashboard version back to Day 1

In order to do the timing attack you will need to read up on the Infectus modchip and their daughterboard. You will also need soldering skills.

Let me know your Dashboard Version and I'll confirm if you have to do this.

ok dashboard is 2.0.5787.0.

guessing that's the right number?  Smiley

so the timing attack will flash the bios back to the 'out of the box' bios that it had when i brought it, then i can stick a new game or try to connect online and download the updates again?

sounds sweet to me, better read up on what this entails then  Grin
