Hi

I recently brought a new XBOX 360 and would like to mod the DVD drive.

Using another site it seems to indicate my drive details as :

Xbox 360 details:
Pack: Xbox 360 Premium
Video mode: PAL
Manufacturer date: 2006-07-15
Lot number: 0628
Team number: FDOU
DVD Drive: Toshiba-Samsung TS-H943
Firmware: MS28

Now I need to know is there a way to update the firmware WITHOUT voiding the warrenty.  There must be a guy reckons he can do it but charges 50 pounds purely just by using a USB stick

any advise help much appreciated

thanks

Get a high powered torch (make sure the batteries are new), turn it on and flash the left side of the console (where the DVD drive is located)...once your done your Xbox 360 will play genuine games and backed up games, this is what's known as flashing your dvd drives firmware Cheesy

The closest thing to not opening the console is poping off the grey cover on the drive side of the console and cutting a hole in the metal case then with some patience and pliers you should be able to unplug the sata and replace with your pc's when your done put the grey cover back on.  You can't tell it was ever opened.  I did this because i got tired of taking my box completely apart.

uhm.. and exactly how did your magical little friend do that? send little fairies inside the 360 to unplug the cables and magically whiz them into the PC?

duhhh
it's the easy method...
first you have to speak out a spell and then it works...no fairies involved...
oh, and you might have to hit the console a few times with a hammer to open up and not have the warranty seal broken

All you guys are wrong, u have to smack it on its ass with just the right force and a second sata cable appears... Where this cable appears is for you to find out.

P.S don't get poked in the eye.

Little confusion from my last post  My mate paid the 50 pounds to get his done and the Warrenty sticker is still intact, so he does not have the files I'm sure if you charge 50 pounds a pop you would share the info.

So back to the reason I originally posted was to save me 50 pounds and keep the warrenty seal intact.

Why does the XBOX 360 need to be open? From what I have read the following seem to be the only reasons

1. To check the firmware revision on the DVD drive - But this can be done using the internet just I had done
2. Perform the 2 pin method
3. Connect to the DVD using the SATA cable

Wth regard to 2 & 3 some people talk about using SLAX to do this by installing it on a USB stick, firstly to create a backup of the original firmware which includes the DVD unique ID and then to flash the DVD drive.  In theory it will just run a unix OS on the USB stick and update the DVD drive?

But hell I've never done one and I'm not a tech wiz so I could be way off the mark But at least one person know of a way to do it (unlesss like one of you said He has cleverly opened the box without ruining the Warrenty sticker

uh.. you do realize that the 360 can run NOTHING at all, homebrew-wise? especially not out of the box. there's no way to launch linux or some app to flash on the 360. the ONLY option is to hook the drive to a PC. and yes, you can remove the warranty sticker using a hairdrier.

maybe he`s getting it confused with that team xtender product (maybe a different company) that once fitted ( which involves opening your console lol ) allows you to reflash the drive without re-opening ?? Huh

I've come to the conclusion I need to open it to mod it and the way to stop warrenty being avoide is by following this

Go to www.xbupgrade.com/news.php & scroll down till you see the "Confirmed: Xbox 360 Elite is hackable" movie clip. Then watch how he opens his 360 without voiding it!!!

any help much appreciated

about 80% of the 360`s i have modded i have done whilst keeping the sticker unbobbled
dont cut it or anything just use small driver on the clips on the front and when it slides open most times the sticker slides of without removing the silverish stuff if that makes sense lol
