don't know if this is the right place to post this so don't flame me without trying to answer my question first

thanks
done a lot of research, and read several help forums concerning the dvd fw hack for the original xbox
I opened up my xbox and I have a samsung/toshiba sdg-605F with a fw of x240
the latter about the fw i found out from attempting to flash it with mtkflash.exe
I created a boot disk with mtkflash.exe on it
i did the hotswap technique of powering on the xbox with the ide cable connected to it as normal, then plugging it in to my pc while it was powered off, then powering on my pc and leaving the xbox powered on
I TRIED TO BACKUP THE ORIGINAL FW FROM MY DVD DRIVE HERE----
typed command: a:/mtkflash 4 r /m ORIG.BIN
also tried mtkflash c to search for connected devices
also tried mtkflash 4 r /m sdg605f.bin
all these attempts said that the device failed to initialize and that i need to reboot computer
---anyone know how to backup the original fw from the samsung drive?? what it is called? in the 360 its called orig.bin, don't know about the xbox 1 though
-----------------------------------------------
SO I DECIDED TO SCREW BACKING UP MY FW AND JUST WENT AHEAD TO FLASH IT WITH MTKFLASH IN WINDOWS INSTEAD OF DOS
--------------------------------------------------------------------
so i'm in windows xp now
i run the mtkflash.exe program
i launch atapi mode
it queries devices and finds samsung sdg-605F(4)
i browse for fw file and select sdg605b.bin
i attempt to flash it, and it says it also failed to initialize and that i need to reboot computer
i have an emachines pc w/ an intel celeron ship (the cheap stuff)
my xbox drive is samsung sdg-605F, and xbox is running the latest xbox version (1.6 i think)
why does it fail to initialize? am I doing the hotswap thing wrong?
or does this not work with sdg-605F, as everyone seems to be talking about sdg-605B
in the wiki it says the F does also work with this hack......................
