It would save so much ripping time if we could detect like 2 bad sectors in a row to skip the whole 8MB block and then continue ripping. I think this would improve ripping speed greatly.
Try clonecd for a change. It seems to be much faster than isobuster.

clonecd produces 7-8 1 gig segments, though, not a single file.

Well, my copy certainly doesn't do that, it creates one big single file. But I heard that story before, maybe it's an option somewhere? You could still merge the multiple files to a single file ofcourse.

I also use 5.2.8.1. Maybe it's because of the hdd filesystem type? I use NTFS. When you have to choose the image name, I set the type to 'image' instead of the default 'image contol file'. Don't know if that's the reason though.

While looking after your problem i found that info in the changelog:

CloneCD Revision History

CloneCD 5.0.0.0 (beta) 2004-07-29
- New: Added ability to read most DVD formats
- Note: DVD must not be copy protected, use AnyDVD if it is
- New: Added ability to write DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW,
  DVD+R Dual Layer and DVD-RAM
- New: Added ability to erase DVD-RW and DVD+RW
- New: Added .dvd "split file" image format. This format
works with FAT32 partitions and is compatible with
  VirtualCloneDrive.
- New: Added ability to write .iso and .udf formats created with
other applications (e.g., Nero, DVD2One, DVDShrink or CloneDVD)

clonecd is spliting your isos cause you are selecting dvd as image and u have to select .ISO if u select dvd image where clonecd ask you for the folder and name to place the image, it will create splited files, if u type xxxx.iso it will make just one file as iso Smiley

That's it! Yes, I always specified xxxx.iso as the file name.

Hi all first post, so here comes almost a definate silly suggestion.....

Have the guru's here looked at 'Iso-Ripper' from the 'drive image tools package' ? I think it does all you need for ripping a full raw image and also produces a badsectors.bin file and with the thier locations  (check the readme for info on how it deals with these bad sectors). This is run on the xbox so the output iso is made into 4GB chunks, but merging them to PC once ftp'd across should be a cinch.

that could work, but from what I understand, the layer breakpoint isn't reported.. I think it may be identical for all xbox disks, though.

has anyone tried using another game (one whose SS isn't supplied) with the SS from another game (i.e. halo 2)?

Hi guys,

Finally got my disc ripped, turned out my disc had too much jam and nuttela on it to recover.  Did the math for the SS and injected it at the right sector, and also again 1 byte below. All i get is the video asking me to put the disc in an xbox.  I have browsed the second layer and can see the game partition no problem so i guess my image is right.

I take it i must have the SS in the wrong place.

Any suggestions?

@uberfry: I did, my halo 2 is the german version and the SS is a different one. I dumped the proper SS with the SS dumping firmware.

@wans: make sure your SS starts at the beginning of the line, the "one byte below" only applies to the way winhex searches files backwards.
