but anyway, since anger said i would post more details... i hotswapped on my NEC 3520A dvd burner, with star wars episode 2 dvd1 original dvd.. (7.70GB).. loaded isobuster, set retrys to 1 on both options, started ripping, when it hit 7% it asked what to do with the bad sectors found, picked make dummy data, and told it to never ask again, got stuck on 7% for a few mins, then kept going, got stuck a few times from bad sectors.. took about 3 hours to rip.. while i was doing that, anger popped in halo 2 in his 605B and dumped the SS with the firmware posted.. after it was done ripping, i opened clonecd, and started a dump in that, then cancelled it, to get the image.dvd with the layer break, edited the image from isobuster to match the image.000 in the image.dvd, and deleted any other image.00# entrys.. using Geremia's calculations, we found the proper offset to go back to, inserted the SS at that sector using winhex, as well as the sector before and after, just for good luck , saved the image... burned it on a verbatim dvd+r dl using clonecd, opening the image.dvd to burn... works great..

The new firmware contains Security Sectors while the other is firmware only.

just a trick to speedup isobuster on bad sectors:
-carefully clean out jam and nutella from the disk surface -go in isobuster option-comunication-read settings, set multiple block and single block transfer retry to 1
another note about drive crazy after swap: make sure your big dvd is OppositeTrackPath, or use a preburned DVD+R DL (it has the same phisical track pitch and path of original disk). I used a samsung/toshiba SH-D162 drive

Morons. If you count at the same acedemic level as you construct an English sentence, then that doesn't surprise me.
That's AC ADEMIC to you. The last FW release by this author was a fake/failure. As such, the author did not deserve the benefit of the doubt this time around. If this FW would have been fake/broken too, then TheSpecialist's analysis would have saved all of you a lot of broken drives and DL DVDs.
Quite illogical, and therefore not an ACADEMIC way of doing things. TheSpecialist analysed his FW with a preconceived bias. As such, he did not even bother to prove it wasn't working before he started telling everyone it couldn't work. This is not a process he learned at an ACADEMIC institution. Its simply quite clear that he had already decided it wouldn't work based on the previous FW not working. Whether he was right or wrong is frankly irrelevant. I didn't see any of you addressing TheSpecialist's 3 concerns about the FW. Some of you put blind faith in the author and it happened to pay off. Congratulations, you can take wild guesses. It's obvious that you people don't have a clue how to participate in a techincal discussion/debate. You're clearly not qualified to post in this section. So kindly dont.
Sadly it looks like you don't know about empiricism. ACADEMICALLY speaking of course. BTW, what I'm really advocating here is the following: Don't try elitist arguments in a technical forum. It won't take you very far. In the end its the facts and facts alone that should be used to judge contributions to a technical discussion.

thats my 2pence worth any hows back to the topic is this for a unmodded xbox or modded xbox
read the first page, this is firmware to get an unmodded XBOX with Samsung DVDROM's to work with specially crafted game images, which is the downside....but the upside is the compatibility with XBOX Live, so if you're soooooo addicted to xbox live and want to play burned games on xbox live, use this hack instead of....softmod/modchip/etc...

On posting links to firmware:
Great work on the firmware guys. I am sure many people will want to take a look. However, due to legal reasons, I cannot allow links to be posted. The forums won't help anyone if they get taken down.
Back in the day, #xbins was a good place for people to find good homebrew software...
Please, no links. Things will end up in the "usual places" soon enough I am sure...

after 6 DL blanks and 2 days, it's finally working here too.. all cause of the SS being off by a single byte.

based on all the information contained in the forums, is it possible to place the SS data on layer 0 (for Single Layer dvdrs), at some location prior to xbox data instead of just after it? and then a FW modification to read from the new location...?
