Dont know if this info is relevent to you, but the Halo 2 disc is region free.
That doesn't change the fact that i don't have the PAL copy of the disc to dump. the SS is tried to the XBE. Since the disk is region free I'd assume the xbe remains the same throughout regions. I could be wrong. Compare a PAL xbe to NTSC if you have both.

so has anyone tried with a security sector they dump from the their game themselves.
No, this can't work for sure (well, since this FW DOES work, I am not so sure of anything anymore ) What 'normally' happens: the drive descrambles the table with responses, using the CPR_MAI. What he *supposedly* did, is modifying that 'DVD-drive response table', to work with CPR_MAI = 0, since this is the 'default value' if you don't write a specific CPR_MAI. However, if you use the standard SS, the response table is scrambled and you WILL need CPR_MAI to get it descrambled. So in short: if you use a 'standard' SS, you WILL need the specific CPR_MAI for it. Which also means that you can currently only use his hack for the games he included SS's for. TheSpecialist: what differs in the SS. i compared his PAL Halo2 SS to my NTSC Halo 2 SS and they differ from 5DF-7FF. Have you found a way to do the same modification to the SS that he has done? another person provided me his halo 2 security sector he says is from a NTCS copy and it differs greatly from both the other PAL and NTSC i have.
This is interesting. I assumed Halo 1 could not work, since only $7F bytes were modded, this should be more, as you also found (in that 5DF region). So maybe the Halo 1 SS is just not good and the other SS'es are ? I will have to look more into it

I know there are a bunch of bad sectors there as a few programs i have tried have reported them (wxripper, clonecd and dvdclone). Gonna have patiance for the time being and see if it gets past these sectors, even though my dvd recorder sounds like its trying to read a floppy disc! I am doing the fololowing to hotswap, can anyone tell me if its right? I made a full 8.5gig DL disc to swap with. I use wxripper to stop the drive, the eject hole to swap the discs and wxripper to start the drive again. I then use isobuster to make the .tao. I can see the game contents of the disc in wx360. Also, about patching the SS into the iso, you said you filled the rest of the space up with the ss repeating, would this work? Dosent the first byte of the SS have to be at the specific sector?

Could i ask pls, when you managed the firmware hack for xb1, what did you use for the media? DL or single layer disks?
and did your backup disks also need patching in a simular way to the ones using this firmware?? (if it works)
Did you also put the SS on the disk?
Cheers in advance

Here is a firmware for reading the security sector data. Use only to obtain SS data from games which is $0800 in length. Send custom cdb command (from dvdinfo pro: AD 00 FF 02 FD FF FE 00 08 00 00 C0). Save data as bin file.
[please don't post links to firmware]
Status Update for 360 Things are moving quickly, patched security sector routine. Security sector now also read from $FB04E0, this is the next sector after xbox 360 game data. Many debug cdb commands found including the firmware checksum routine which will be patched for xbox live checker, other debug commands will be patched as they return values from disk. Interesting that the firmware checks for version of security sector data at $065f in SS data, being 01 (xbox) or 02 (360) Read sector routine patched to read from originals and copies. I am working onit and should be complete soon.

it's just some ppl doesn't have any at all uhh.. what happened to 'the scene'... On tech side, yes ss'es from his patches are kinda different from originals as far as i can check, and surely cprmai is absent, BUT as long as there is an 'algorithm' for making workable ss for particular game - i don't give a toss. It will make proply made backup boot. And originals still use original checks. 360 - same story. End of ! (C)Saskia/bb6uk

I used SL. In the 8050L there is a check on disctype and if a single layer is present, it is not going to read the SS (of course it couldn't, because it's on layer 1). So if you kill this check you can use SL. I wouldn't know where this check in the sammy is BTW, but I'm sure commodore4eva knows about it and did your backup disks also need patching in a simular way to the ones using this firmware?? (if it works) First version loaded the SS from FW. After that, from disc. Of course, yes you have to patch the ISO to insert the SS.

Well, first thing MS will do now is release a kernel update that asks for the CPR_MAI But still, nice work bij mr. commodore4eva and I'm quite sure he won't have any problems with the 360 (it isn't much harder).

RE: SS Dumping Firmware
Works Great! First try with no problems. Flash the drive, hook up to your PC and send the command as he stated. Excellent work Commodore. Glad to see all doubt of your skills has disappeared.

And why would that be ? Because he is the first one to release a FW ? No, all credit should go to him for doing that, it's his choice. I know of 8 people on this board who got it working too. Nobody of them released. Commodore4eva DID release it. Everybody's gotta do what he's gotta do Yes, I still think it's not a good decision to release, but that decision must make everyone for himself.
