does anyone know why my samsung sd 616F isn't recognized on my pc anymore? :s
i had flashed it with the original sd605 (not hacked) firmware and ever since it's neither recognized by native ide nor by ata-to-usb bridge o.O
anyone know if that's normal?

nope. chances are it's not a standard 616F and you just killed it with a wrong firmware for the chipset.

I can confirm the Geremia formula:

SECURITY_SECTOR_ADDRESS = IMAGE_SIZE_IN_BYTES -  ((LAST_PSN - F9FA00 - 1) * 0x800)

Where:
IMAGE_SIZE_IN_BYTES is a decimal value of the size of final image, all others are Hexadecimal
   LAST_PSN : Readed with dvdinfo pro READ_DVD_STRUCTURE
F9FA00: PSN where SS is searched for the commodore4eva fw u can change this value hexediting the fw

you are not supposed to eject the disk, if you eject it will mess up. you have to take the top off the dvdrom and swap the disk on the closed tray.

gotcha!

but my sd 616 reads:

DVD Master 16E MODEL SD-616

then, theres another sticker:

SD-616FRPS     6RET205538F     F/W=F101
H/W:A    Ver.F    FEBRUARY 2002

I flashed it like 1-2 months ago with the firmware from #xbins

it SHOULD work, but can actually scratch the disk cause it will spin on the tray. also, on some drives the laser unit will not move up all the way after pushing the tray in manually, causing it to mess up.

should be ok then, can only imagine that something went wrong during flashing then. have you tried reflashing it with mtkflash (using a boot floppy/CD, not mtkwinflash)?

i have the top off but there is a plastic thing that goes across the middle and holds a plastic circle that helps hold the disc.  I can't grab it from underneath it!!!

gotta make it yourself.. i.e. in nero, make a bootable CD and put the mtkflash + firmware file on it.

@john: you'll have to unscrew it and remove it before you swap the disk, then put it back in place.. or use another drive.

Maybe we should start a 'compatability' thread, assuming it hasn't been done yet  Wink
Memorex dual format external drive, when using pinhole, doesn't scratch the disk as most drives do.
I am trying with hitman2.. its been about 10 minutes and is at 62%
That sounds good after what i've been reading

Is this a technical SUPPORT or discussion forum? sorry if this bothers anyone but i would really like follow the topic with relevant TECHNICAL posts.

BTW. The "how-to" for creating dual layer disc backups is on the software thread and there is also an explanation on a web page.

Best Regards.

Just about to say that,  wxripper is a god send when it comes to stoping and starting the disc.

If you wanna spin down the drive you can use plscsi..

first do.. plscsi -w .. this will list all your drives

select your drive in my case:
set PLSCSI=\\.\F:  // @ SAMSUNG  DVD-ROM SD-616Q  F404

now make a bat file stop.bat or somthing and put in

set PLSCSI=\\.\F:
plscsi -x "1B 0 0 0 00 0"

this will spindown the drive

Sorry, a little mistake, this is the corrected Formula:

SECURITY_SECTOR_ADDRESS = IMAGE_SIZE_IN_BYTES -  ((LAST_PSN - F9FA00 + 1) * 0x800)

Where:
IMAGE_SIZE_IN_BYTES is a decimal value of the size of final image, all others are Hexadecimal
   LAST_PSN : Readed with dvdinfo pro READ_DVD_STRUCTURE
F9FA00: PSN where SS is searched for the commodore4eva fw

If you always use the same "big dvd" like that dummy data disc posted by Geremia then you will always have the same Security Sector Address so you will not get crazy calculating every time

Just out of couriosity, has anyone started to look at the philips dvd drives for xbox 1?

In addition there is a SS_dumper FW and the v2 FW, what is the point of the dumper FW?  I thought you could just use that tool to send in raw commands to received the SS for a particular disc?
