has to be? it can be but doesn't have to be. i had an old power cable from an xbox and used it to make a power adapter for standard power plugs. it doesn't have to be but it is the easiest way to just power from the xbox.

you can build a simple wiring adapter for power if you have a spare yellow DVD power cable.

I know that this firmware isn't for the 605F but thats' all i have and i was wondering if it would take much work for this hack to be reproduced for that drive or the other drives in general or is these firmware hacks completely different for the different drives. Also will there be a modification of this hack to allow the security sector to be read from the first layer allowing it to be written on a DVD-5 instead of a DL. I realize this is my first post but i have been following this from the beginning.

....... It works! Changed the firmware as suggested by Geremia, i had 4 discs to test 3 failed 1 worked! Now to make an iso of the working disc so i can see for myself how the sector is found, its always easier to understand when you can compare things. Also Arakon, thanks for the tip. Seems the SS wasnt the problem, but glad for the info. fine, so 99% sure of: - lastPSN-F9FA00=the end of the SS sector, so it must be pasted 0x800 bytes back - F9FA00 found in fw is a pure data and refers to the sector the SS is placed don't try a DVD5 solution, more than one check will fail in authentication i suppose, for example media type not DL, security placeholders absent (still not sure of SP use in auth of xbox1, but there is a new thread about it around).

thanks for answering my second question but what about this firmware hack being ported to the SDG-605F. Would it be very hard for the author of this hack?

the 605F has a completely different chipset and firmware, so it's not a matter of just transfering the code over.

Thanks, but do you think that in the near future, every dvd drive will have it's own firmware hack to accomplish the same thing? Im just wondering because if not, i will buy a 616T and do it.

When trying to rip the .iso in isobuster the only options I get are:
Extract DVD > user data (.tao)
Why can I only save as .tao? Will it still work?

Germania: would you mind trying the robinsod firmware? you can software flash it to the drive and read it with software once the SS is writen to the flash. I dumped my halo 2 SS with both and they differ 5DF-7FF. If this table is somehow decrypted and redone with a 0000 CPR_MAI like TheSpecialist suggested. Would the 360 table be uneffected by this? is the same algorithm used? I am just curious if the it is dumping it correctly or just a currupted version of it.
My dump of PGR3 SS made with robinsod fw, differs from the one dumped with commodore4eva 605b0800 fw in the first byte, then all different after 0x65F, so it's unusefull to dump 360 disks SS with this fw

I found my original hard drive.. im designing the biggest, ugliest case mod to house the both HDs with a selector switch (which consists of exposed ide i just twist together) @arakon, thx, i believe i had one too many last night to read all TWO stickers. But indeed, all are 605Bs cheers Will try todo shortly and post back what I run into: success/failure.

Thanks, I'd never heard of it as an image file before Are there any programs other than wxripper than can stop the dvd drive? I don't think it's working. I hit hotswap-stop, then hotswap-eject but it doesn't eject. So I did it manually and then hit hotswap-spin after I'd put the xbox dvd in the drive but as I say I don't think it's working. I went ahead and dumped the image but my dvd light wasn't blinking the whole time and at the end I got: ---- Errors occured during reading Number of errors: 3,4449,998 Last Error Address: 3,4449,997 Last Error: 02/3A/00 Do you want to delete the file? ---- I've tried this twice and the same thing happened both times.

Just wait to autostop spinning (after a while), make sure it is not open any app that is accessing the dvd drive because it will not stop or takes long time.
