Repairing a dead Xbox 360 (3 flashing red lights)

i had the 3 red lights with bad ram chips. sended my box modded to MS and got myelf a new replacement!
warranty sticker was broken. but now i got a new one with hitachi 59dj drive. hacked it again straight out of the box

Xenn0X Was it still under your warranty or did your warranty run out my box is 11 months old now I will call tommorrow and see what they'll do for me, thanks. I heard of a few others that had the same luck.

still in warranty cause here in europe/ holland we have 2 years on 360. defined by law on electonics waranty so ms can do $#!t about it and need to repair it anyway.
just call it in and send it. nothing to lose

I finally felt confidant enough to put the heat gun to work. Sure enough works now, I played last night, 2 games around 2 hours and played this morning, gears of war and dead rising for about 2 more hours more, no freeze no 3 lights no sign of trouble whatsoever. I sure hope this is it, sure would be great.
 I dare not close it up yet, so the top is still off and will wait a few days to reassemble the casing, artic silver 5 was also applied and it seems to run a bit cooler maybe because the top is off I never had it overheat on me never played it more then a few hours at a time, I hope this is the end of my 3 light dilemma. I will post back if it starts up again. I will also post back the good news if there is any, in about a week or so, if it is still working that is.

In my opinion the airflow is better with the case closed.

I did the heatgun twice and the system worked for a day so i decided to put it together again, and yes when i first booted it, 3 red lights again, so i could disassemble the whole system again.

I now did the heatgun trick for the third time and i kept going for 5 minutes, it works again now, but for how long? I think because my heatgun is only 1000watt it is not heating enough to make the fix permanent.

What heatgun do you guys recommend me to use?

I bought a 2000 watt GMC brand heat gun with an LED temp guage and variable heat settings that you can set to whatever temp you want (instead of the standard Hi/LO setting with most heat guns). It's very good, I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the advice I will close it up then gsm2xtreme.
Just because I have heard this before explain why closing the case would keep this cooler. I have read this before but I'd like to be reminded again please.

exactly what he said.. better airflow. the air can't just randomly float about, but is forced into a stream in a smaller space, increasing suction and enforcing the direction of "out" for the hot air.

Hey as someone told me earlier, my towel trick stopped working oh well i went out and got a heat gun and did the method, seems to be working alright, but so did the towel trick for a few hours.  If this doesn't hold up, I have made up my mind to go ahead and get the right equipment and reball the gpu, sounds like a load of fun.

Well three days of happy happy with my heat gun fix and RLOD back for a second time (only got to play it a few hours), so I through a towel over it and wala its lasted now for four days and I have been playing it 7 or 8 hours a day 3 day heat trick I didn’t play but a few hours, so I guess I will just have to play like crazy every day. Yeah that’s it> I will attempt the aluminum can fix next I have an option to swap it for a newer used 360 with a Hitachi LG drive $125 I don’t want to because I love my sammy and besides does anyone really know if this issue is fixed in the newer 360’s it may be found out 9 months from now that it hasn’t, or has it been addressed? Only read the MS is 280 million in the red not only because of this but it is part of it.
