this guy is on some kind of obsessed trip. he probably is the kind of person that assumes there's someone watching him around every corner. "omg, you got the firmware and are not giving it to me! you deleted the links! I saw them! right next to the links that prove that JFK was killed by aliens! really!!"..some people need help. and I am not talking about hacking help.

can we get back on topic yet? what do the hackers that worked on this thing think about microsoft and whats going to happen in the future?

I have been following the development of the Blackbolt skin for XBMC lately.

Their goal is to make an exact replica of the x360 dashboard, a very cool project. I also wondered if they could get away with it and how M$ might respond to their project. Well, they have send a response now. Did they demand that site should be taken offline? No. Did they send an angry letter? No. Has xboxhacker.net received any letter or e-mail yet? I might have missed it but I think not ..

A metallic case without any seals counts as a dvd drive protection?

No, the big white case sealing the entire unit.  The firmware IS protected under the "implied copyright" clause.
Well, we can now also buy replacement drives on-line. They don't come with a big white case. Smiley And there aren't any M$ markings to be found on the drive. What about such a replacement drive? Who is the firmware copyright holder? LG or M$ ?

MS has contracted LG and TS to make a custom firmware to read MS produced technology, so MS.  LG and TS still own patents on the hardware to prevent duplication though.

I've spent the last few weeks hiding in the Tora Bora cave complex in Afghanistan and the wireless data services are flakey to say the least so I'm a little behind on this thread Smiley

I dont believe anyone at Redmond wants to pay for my help, give me a prize, a free buffet or even a big hug.

I don't see much point in M$ suing me either since I dont have millions of dollars (not unless it slipped down the back of the sofa but I think I would have noticed). If I end up in a criminal court I am 100% certain I will take the opportunity to spell out exactly how poor that security system is which can only lead to more embaressment IMHO. Maybe I could use the opportunity to discuss byte by byte how the hack works in open court and on the record if you know what I mean Smiley

What could M$ possibly learn from reading the thread? They know how their security system works and must know how trivial it is to defeat. I don't think they get much from reading this thread, the only motivation, IMHO, would be to monitor the site for copyright infringements and links to hacked firmware and I'm guessing they would be in touch if such were posted.

Finally are there any European Legal Beagles reading this, it may come as a suprise to some but we're not all US citizens and fascinating though your legal system & constitution may be it doesn't appear to apply to the whole world.

Ok, gotta go, Mohammed is back & I have to go haggle over the price of Opium. I decided to abondon hacking and get into international drug smuggling - it's safer and pays better
