Thanks all for the massive amount of info. It has been a pleasure following all the threads relating to this hack. I read the "step by step by step by step by step by step by step you get the idea guide" ( http://www.kev.nu/360/dvdshort.html#3).Plus hours and hours of re reading and reading other not so related threads. Seems to me you guys have given us all the info we need but the code itself. I understand that TS will NOT release it. But can we have more clues as to what part of the code to change and clues on what to change certain parts of the code to? Have I missed somthing? Can anyone point me in the right direction (other than write the code yourself or intellectual sarcasm) before I am too old and frail to be interested in xbox at all ?

        Much of that information is there.  It may not be overtly stated, but if you sit down with some notes and attempt to infer locations in need of patching, I'm sure you'll come up with at least a few... (I am NOT claiming to have recreated the hack)

Has anyone other than TS done this hack?

 There was a whole team behind the original FW hack.  I believe there was at least five or so people working on that team.  So that's at least 5 people.  I've heard rumors of others who have replicated it.  Nothing concrete though.  However, I'm fairly certain that it's been replicated at least once.

And what about the Toshiba/Samsung drive, has there been any public progress on that one?

  Nothing public that I'm aware of, however I'm aware that at least one person has worked at it.  (no one that I know, just something I've heard of)  Once I finish work with my Hitachi, I'm gonna look at a TS.

there is a huge point making that site. some of us are not experienced enough to do this kind of thing.
If you are not experienced enough then you should not attempt any of this stuff at all IMHO. There's too much room for error, people will break their drive for sure. I have heard too many horror stories about this already. And they were experienced hackers .. Simply wait for a power adapter to be on sale. Or let the console power the drive. There's no need for any (custom) hardware solution.

thanks buddy, your comment makes me alot better now. i'll sure wait for this.  Kiss godbless

I know that someone is working on it for myself, but I was curious if there was any other public progress because so much is now on the net for the Hitachi drive and I've heard that the T/S drive could be done for 99,99% with succes also. That's why it just does surprise me that there is not much more known about it! Anyhow, I just like to read the stuff, I don't want to brick my drive in any way, like my 360 too much for it Smiley

@theM.A.R.T

   Yeah, I don't *WANT* to brick mine either Smiley  I've become very motivated to do this for the personal challenge now.  In the beginning there was a different feeling involved.  It's now evolved into something that drives me.  At first it was oddly disturbing how much I liked doing this.  Now it's a high when I make a new discovery. however, I'm still a noob and will probably break something or write a bad patch.  Thus.. I'm investing in a spare drive.  (Summertime yields much extra money for college students).

I've read up a little bit on the TS firmware and definately plan on taking a look at it when I'm done. Simply to gain a better understanding/insight. Might take a shot at unlocking LG first though, would definately be fun to have a hand in that.  Just for $#!ts and giggles.
